There is a song that was popular a few months ago by some guy named David? or Benjamin? or something that has a chorus about "if I'm not meant for you then why does my heart tell me that i am", "i don't know what the future brings but i know that you're here with me now", "you're the one i want to spend my life with, you're the one I hope I die with," "i want to make you my wife," "if I'm not meant for you then why does my heart tell me that I am," etc., etc., etc. ... I know these lyrics are out of order and it almost sounds like a boy band song when you listen to it... Does anyone know the name and artist for that song.. thank you!!! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 6 Feb 2004 15:50:11 -0330 From: "sean obrien" Subject: [support-system] Amurrican Top Forty My radio just told me that The Liz will be interviewed this Saturday on American Top Forty, along with Sheryl Crowe(sic) and others. But if they think that I'm sitting, with a hangover, through that whole damned show to hear thirty seconds of commentary from Phair Liz, then they have another thing coming! On the other hand if the radio happens to be on when I come to... we'll see. Or any new dazzling chart figures for that second single that was supposed to REALLY send the album skyrocketing? It's been a while since anyone has talked about it, and time just keeps marching on. It's really frustrating to see a favorite singer being mis-managed. Okay - - fine if the slant/style and audience she was going for was not my cup of tea - but come on!! she has an album full of slick and glittery songs generated by a hit-making production team - and whoever is in charge of releasing her singles slacked off. if they are gonna spend so much money on an album which is meant to "move units" - why don't they do a little elbow work and start releasing singles?? why wasn't Extraordinary released? for real. Her picture was all over the place - image wise - she was everywhere - but nothing to back it up except "Why Can't I"! after Why Can't I was played to death - she comes back on T.V to play WInter Wonderland??? gimme a large break. It was being pegged as this great "summer album" - it came out at the perfect time, but it sat dormant with one radio friendly single. They were getting somewhere with Why Can't I - but then just fucked up and lost momentum. Extraordinary could have really sent it flying - moreso than Why Can't I, in my opinion. Shit - they coulda got Winona Ryder to be in the video for Firewalker - and THAT would have saved both their careers in one shot. how cool would that have been? i don't think this is Liz's fault either. it's just some annoying marketing strategy that stinks of backfire. another big marketing boner this year was the Bangles Doll Revolution. I absolutely love the new album. the first single they picked "something that you said" - flat out sucked. it was the only song on the album that sucked - but fine. they wanted a drum machine song as a "we're baaack" to cater to a new audience. the album was released everywhere EXCEPT the United States - and by the time it was released there - everyone already ordered an import copy so it sold shit-all. then they fail to release the title track (what was supposed to be a single) "Tear Off Your Own Head" - and that SOOO would have put them back on the map. so the album flopped. that sucks. and it bothers me when I can actually see what they are doing wrong. i'm not in the music industry - so i don't know all the issues behind releasing a single - but i seriously think whoever was in charge of releasing Liz's singles - really fucked up the whole album, whether it was a sell-out or not. it's not gonna sell anything now. or am i being stupid? Was extraordinary released? if it was - my apologies to whoever released it. in that case - no one pimped the single out enough. liz needs to come hoe for me. - total joke. dan ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 9 Feb 2004 14:06:42 -0800 (PST) From: Emil Breton Subject: Re: [support-system] liz and time dan wrote: > or am i being stupid? Yes, "Extraordinary" was released (she performed it on The Tonight Show -- did you miss that, Dan?), but the video hasn't been re-shot or released (as it appears on the Capitol Records 'Blow-Up!' DVD) to VH1 or MTV. Last I heard -- and this was from Al Madrid, out there in sunny California, who may chime in on this issue any time now -- the single was being received with open arms from radio programmers, in particular at one mainstream pop station in LA. But that was a couple months ago, I think, and there's been no further word. Meanwhile, there's a full-page ad in the current issue of Entertainment Weekly for Liz's tour dates, and I think it mentions that "Extraordinary" is the new single, or maybe not. Oh, and the really cool thing is that if you turn the page, there's a picture of her old summer camp chum Julia Roberts. Reunited at last! Guess which one of them is airbrushed to look like she's still 12 years-old... __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! But that was a couple >months ago, I think, and there's been no further word. "Extraordinary" has only went for adds at Hot AC so far. After several weeks, it's still only reached No. 20 on the Radio & Records Hot AC chart. Not too promising, considering Liz is coming off of a top 10 hit at that format -- a song that went for adds nine months ago and is still getting more spins per week than the new single is. There's no video release in sight and the song hasn't went for adds at CHR/Pop stations yet either. I'm starting to wonder if the label is scaling back promotion for the album now; after all the money they put into making and marketing it, it's only sold 300,000 copies to date. >Meanwhile, there's a full-page ad in the current issue >of Entertainment Weekly for Liz's tour dates, and I >think it mentions that "Extraordinary" is the new >single, or maybe not. Reunited at last! >Guess which one of them is airbrushed to look like >she's still 12 years-old... It can't be any worse than those recent pictures from Maxim. It seems like a rather calculated and depressing marketing ploy -- she's trying way too hard to be sexy and it just comes off as tacky instead. It just seems somewhat hypocritical, given Liz's complaints in past interviews about photographers wanting her to pose provocatively and show her breasts. What happened to turning down Playboy because there was no way to be subversive about it? How is Maxim any better? I have a couple of friends who need tickets. I'm also looking for a couple of tickets to the Etheridge show at H.O.B. on 3/18. On another note, I also agree that they took there sweet ass time releasing the next single. It does seem, as if they put the breaks on pretty early when they saw the sales wheren't that great. Who knows maybe the'll drop her and we'll see that win - win situation she was talking about. Later Lor Yahoo! Instead, when I glanced over at the screen a few minutes ago, I caught the last part of a feature they did on Liz on the New Music. I didn't catch the whole thing, but they did play short clips from the "Stratford-on-Guy" and "Why Can't I?" videos, along with some footage of her show at the Guvernment in November and an interview. I just checked and it looks like it's on again tonight at 1:30 a.m. EST. The show is an hour long and Liz's segment was the last one, for anyone who's interested in watching or taping it. It's also going to be shown on City-TV on Saturday, February 14 at 2:30 p.m. EST and again on MuchMusic on Monday, February 16 at 12:30 p.m. EST.
