"Pounds of flesh" is a Shakespearian quote from "Macbeth" I think. I didn't know that though until I had to take a required Shakespeare class to complete my english major. Sorry to say, that line isn't Courtney's. Can't wait for her new album, although she worked w/ Linda Perry which is in my opinion, just as bad as working with The Matrix. - -dan - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Get a FREE online virus check for your PC here, from McAfee. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 26 Jan 2004 10:42:46 -0500 From: Jase Subject: Re: [support-system] RE: Off-topic, but for those who like Courtney Love... I know the line wasn't written by Courtney. I just found it interesting that she would reuse the same line almost a decade later in "Celebrity Skin." It's like Liz was with Girly Sound -- Courtney, too, keeps going back to old demos for inspiration and ideas. "Best Sunday Dress," in particular, has been revisited on three separate occasions ("Starbelly" on _Pretty on the Inside_, the version played at LTT-era shows and on Hole's Unplugged appearance, then as a "Celebrity Skin" b-side). I think the results of the Linda Perry collaboration will be better than most people expect. I know this is the wrong place to say this, but when Liz wrote "Why Can't I?" with the Matrix, she came out sounding more like Avril than most of us want to admit. Meanwhile, on "Mono," one of the songs Linda Perry worked on, Courtney sounds like no one but herself. If anything, the song reminds me of _Celebrity Skin_-era Hole, but not quite as poppy. There's also a couple of parts in the song where I almost expect them to launch into the chorus from "Violet." Also, Courtney's not the type to put any songs on her album that she's not absolutely thrilled with. I know Liz gave in and put "Favorite" on her album, even though she admitted the chorus makes her cringe, but Courtney's too much of a control freak and always seems to get her own way. Besides, she didn't work with Linda Perry on all of the songs, and there's some damn interesting musicians who played on the record, including Brody Dalle (the Distillers), Kim Deal, and Wayne Kramer (MC5). It's quite a line up of talent. And, mark my words, "Hold on to Me" will be released as a single and is going to be a huge hit. And rock radio will be all the better for it. I passed on the message in alt.fan.l-p advertising the DVD, and I too had a long wait before it arrived. However, I did get it eventually, although for a while I had the same worries that you're having. The good news (for you) is that you'll have paid less than I did :-( The DVD is good quality and I hope you'll think it worth the wait. I spotted things on the recording that I missed in the live concert, like the fact that Liz had four guys in her band, not three. I guess I had tunnel vision that night - she's a bit gorgeous, isn't she? When your disk arrives, I can let you have some artwork (CD and liner) I made up, if you want. I replaced the one he stuck on the disk (ask him to leave it blank if you want to add something yourself). Last thought - if I did this again with Chris, I'd place the order and maybe make a deposit, but I'd only pay the residue when notified that he has it ready to ship. That's the advice I'd give to anyone who fancies acquiring a copy of this DVD but is worried about dealing with this guy. HTH Paul - --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
