["Liz J" Subject: [support-system] cute illustration Y'all seen this already? http://www.planetbunky.com/illustrations/phair.html I happened upon it in a yahoo search... I don't know how old it is or whether it's made the rounds. - --Catherine ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jan 2004 02:13:57 -0500 From: Catherine Molanphy Subject: [support-system] I still get nervous for her... It's funny... I'd love to see a videotape of me watching any TV appearance by Liz... I just know that my face goes through all these weird contortions: little half-smiles if she's good, painful mouth-screwing when she sucks ass, that kind of thing. I lean forward unconsciously in my seat, anxious for how she comes off, as if she's a relative or something. Duh, Catherine... But you know, she may be a sellout but dammit! She's *my* little sellout... So yeah, all that blather was inspired by seeing her on Leno a couple of hours ago. Factoid list for those of you who missed: - - She played Extraordinary. Finally! I expected her to play it on The View appearance, but she was still wheeling out WCI when she did that one. - - Jay made a joke before and after the song that she "eats a good breakfast. I like a girl who eats a good breakfast" or something like that. He said it was "sort of an inside joke". Would Jay make a sly reference to HWC? I haven't the slightest idea... it was cryptic. - - Other guests on the show were Kelly Ripa and Simon Cowell(sp?). The Simon pairing made me giggle... because I doubt that Liz's vocal work would get her very far on American Idol. I wished I could have heard Simon's inner monologue while watching Liz's performance. That being said, I was pleased with the performance overall. (Of course, anything would sound good after that douche-chill inducing Conan performance of Winter Wonderland.) "Extraordinary" is a strong pop song, I think, and I got little happy wiggles thinking that it might break her, all while I was watching it. (What can I say? I'm her prison bitch and probably always will be.) Her vocal started out as her usual weak-and-wobbly, but she got stronger towards the end and really belted a few lines. Her backup singer was good. The drums were good, too. She was real chummy and huggy with Kelly... just a formal handshake for Simon and his manbreasts. Jay was very friendly. That's all from me for now... anyone know of any other upcoming TV spots? On the lp.com forum someone said they heard she might be an SNL guest. Anyone else heard about this? - --Catherine ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jan 2004 04:07:10 -0500 From: "WaverRider" Subject: [support-system] Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie After seeing the new pictures, I'd like to say that I really don't like the direction Liz is going with all the publicity, photo ops and "interesting" outfits. I don't think I like her anymore. Come to think of it, I don't know if I've liked her for a while. Maybe I just liked the first couple albums and was just hoping sooner or later she would redo them. Anyway, I'll probably still watch all her appearances on TV, and listen to the new album sporadically, probably just because I bought it, but the overall appeal is no longer there. Just like to add that I think Liz's best look is Supernova/Rocketboy videos and the Lilith Fair tour dresses and yes, I am just saying that because that is what I like.... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jan 2004 02:32:21 -0800 (PST) From: Emil Breton Subject: [support-system] Leno Man, she sang "Extraordinary" like old-school Liz. And by 'old-school Liz' I mean she lost all the clear, affected ssssssssibilance she's been piling on since wcse (an effort to enunciate more clearly, or seem more girly, or both?). Nerves! re: the breakfast joke, Jay actually explained that earlier before the show he'd seen Liz eating a gigantic breakfast, that's all. No innuendo. I actually thought that performance was *better* than the album version. It sounded closer to a rock song than a rocked-out pop song. I hope it's another hit single for her that doesn't really move any units, just like WCI. That would be great. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! I was fighting sleep and missed the explanation. Liz's performance was outstanding, and she was as hot as usual. I applaud the camera work of the TS crew. They concentrated mostly on Liz instead of the band or audience. (As well they should) I'm glad I stayed awake to enjoy it. I actually caught myself smiling through the whole song. I'm such a girl... I'm so glad Low Voice Liz is back (or at least was for this apperance). >The Simon pairing made me giggle... because I doubt that Liz's vocal work >would get >her very far on American Idol. I wished I could have heard Simon's inner >monologue while watching Liz's performance. I thought that it was incredibly ironic that Simon was on. While he was promoting his new book, he made a comment that he no longer sees Madonna as "hot" (or something like that) because she's a "housewife." (I'm no Madonna fan Simon, but a housewife is a woman who doesn't work outside of the home, a homemaker, a "professional mom." Madonna still releases albums and does desperate acts for publicity. She may not be all that she once was, but she's no "housewife.") And all I could think was, "Isn't Liz the same then, in Simon's eyes?" They both have kids, and they're both trying to appeal to a younger generation, win more fans, and sell their albums. I too would have loved to hear Simon critique Liz's performance. (And I'd also love to hear someone try out for "American Idol" by singing a Liz song ... and someone probably will too, with her new stuff.) >Her backup singer was good. She was the same backup singer whose voice was like fingers on a chalk board for me the last time Liz was on Leno, the day the album came out. I'm glad she improved, although I think she was still a little loud -- or maybe Liz's gone quiet again. >That's all from me for now... anyone know of any other upcoming TV spots? >On >the lp.com forum someone said they heard she might be an SNL guest. Anyone >else heard about this? That would be awesome. I've been wondering when she'd be on SNL. And Catherine, I still get nervous for her too. "Don't fuck up, don't fuck up, hit the note, don't look like an idiot, please play some awe-inducing guitar," is my mantra whenever she's on TV. _________________________________________________________________ Learn how to choose, serve, and enjoy wine at Wine @ MSN. http://wine.msn.com/ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jan 2004 18:59:00 -0600 From: "Liz J" Subject: [support-system] Liz photos at Wire Image There are tons of Liz photographs at wireimage.com.
