I wasn't all that into The Rising, but I thought this one really was a really brilliant response to 9/11. The followup EP, (thank you for being so prolific, Mac McCaughan) Autumn Was A Lark, is pretty excellent too, mostly for one song. Any other Mac fans on the list? I'm sad I didn't love Lucinda William's World Without Tears more; she's one of my all time favorites, and it had several fantastic songs, but there were a few too many missteps for me to rank it with her others. Still, it was nice (and uncharacteristic) of her to put it out so promptly after Essence. I was listening to the new Fountains of Wayne CD for a while, but I got tired of it pretty quickly. what else was there this year? i can't even think of anything. xoxo bennett New Yahoo! This is kind of the setlist: Flower (a sped up rock version, minus alleged new verses) Cinco De Mayo (a big surprise) Rock Me Polyester Bride Blue (a Jayhwaks cover she said she's been really into performing lately. I thought it was bland and would have rather heard one of her own songs) Friend of Mine (apologized for two depressing songs, said the rest would rock) Mesmerizing Supernova Fuck and Run Johnny Feelgood Divorce Song Why Can't I? Encore: Hot White Cum (after "blue" I may have messed up the order, although the last 3 are definitely correct) Extra info: She didn't play "extraordinary", which is what she's supposedly promoting. She didn't mention forgetting the words to "Winter Wonderland" on national TV. She seemed happy and pretty into the show, although the set was kind of short (which I expected anyway for a free show). The new version of "flower" was great. I was glad she didn't pull someone on stage who either can't sing, or didn't know the words. She looked great, but kind of silly for age. Not saying that she's old at all, but even someone 25 would look silly wearing that outfit. That's it. - -dan - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dont worry if your Inbox will max out while you are enjoying the holidays. I was checking out lizphair.com after watching the Queer Eye music video thing on Bravo tonight. They mentioned in the show how Liz is on their upcoming album (due out in Feb), so I was trying to see what song was on the album, to no avail. (They also mentioned on the show that "she rocks.") Anyway, I see there are new tour dates for next year listed, so I check them out. They are all listed as 2003 tour dates. Funny, how all these new 2004 tour dates don't even have the correct year attached to them. Someone at lizphair.com is really not paying attention. It just amused me that so little care was taken (why am I not surprised?) and that someone was this confused... ~Just Another Girl ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Dec 2003 01:05:43 EST From: AWeiss4338@aol.com Subject: [support-system] Top Ten 1 Liz, both album and EP. Jill Sobule The Folk Years 2003-2003. Fountains Of Wayne, Welcome Interstate Managers. The three albums that gave me the most pleasure this year. The Jill album is not a typo, just her sense of humor. I think it's wonderful that a band from Jersey that doesn't sound like Bon Jovi or Springsteen have success. NJ has so many good bands and solo artists. Followed closely by... 2 Dar Williams, Beauty Of The Rain 3 Kathleen Edwards Failer, the debut of the years for me. (Tie) Chantal Kreviazuk What If It All Means Something 4Lucinda Williams World Without Tears 5 Some Girls Feel It/Bangles Doll Revolution 6 Rickie Lee Jones The Evening Of My best Day 7 Belle & Sebastian Dear Catastrophe Waitress 8 Rufus Wainwright Want One 9 A Mighty Wind sountrack. Want a funny film with cool music, rent this one. A fun folk music parody from the guys that made Spinal Tap. Eugene Levy and Cathlene O' Hara Rule! 10 Natalie Merchant The House Capenters Daughter.
