"most people," or, rather, "the most important people." will many people on this list have children someday? sure... maybe. who knows. will i? if i do it will be an annoying, complicated, faggy process. so i guess i'm not "most people."-- although i know there are other people on the list who are probably in the same position. is liz now For Parents Only? if so, i guess you can count me out, at least for the near future. my real point was that most good songs don't discriminate along lines like that. sure, not everyone is going to like any song, but good songs aren't for paraplegics only, or gays only, or hookers or redheads or stupid people or etc etc etc.... they should be gettable across all -- sorry, most-- arbitrary demographic lines. i probably would like little digger, regardless of lyrics, if i thought it was an interesting song. i don't, especially, although it's certainly not the worst song on the album. but at that point, it's just a matter of taste, right? anyone who likes it can be my guest... i'm just trying to keep the conversation rollin. xoxo bennett >Paul Spinks wrote... >Aren't you setting the bar a little high? Stone Temple Pilots Thank You Granted, its a greatest hits album, but I have to give props to the last hurrah (for now) of my favorite band. The rock world is worse off without them in it and a band. 2. Anthrax Were Come For You All My favorite studio album of the year and the best album in the 20 year history of the band. 3. Liz Phair Liz Phair I guess I love this album more than most people. I have my own personal reasons for that. 4. Rush Rush In Rio Its a live album, but I absolutely love it. 5. Ryan Adams Rock and Roll / Love Is Hell Parts 1 & 2 I bought the Rock and Roll album blind, after not hearing anything but a few clips from it. A lot of people find it to be a generic album, but I think its brilliant. Its the kind of album that is sorely missing in rock these days. The Love Is Hell set is also great and is on the exact opposite end of the spectrum from Rock and Roll. I love them both. 6. Black Label Society The Blessed Hellride Another great album by Zakk Wylde. Now if he would only stop touring with Ozzy so much and concentrate on touring with his own band. 7. Iron Maiden Dance of Death One of the best album yet by one of the innovators of metal. 8. PaloAlto Heroes and Villians I saw these guys as an opening act, and was so impressed that I rushed out and bought their debut album. This is their second album and is better than the first, IMO 9. Janes Addiction Strays I was never a JA fan, but the riffs on this album were too much to resist. 10. Alien Ant Farm - TruAnt Normally I would never give these guys a second look, but because this album was produced by Dean and Robert DeLeo from STP I had to check it out. Very good album that had the DeLeo sound written all over it. Looking forward to (some rumored) new releases in 2004 from: Velvet Revolver, Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Iced Earth, Oasis, Audioslave, In Flames, Black Label Society. Yes indeed. Even my girlfriend commented on how hot she thought Liz looked - Rowr! As far as the debate over Litter Digger (oops, was thinking about my cat), er Little Digger goes, I must say that being a parent and now going through a divorce after 14 years of marriage I can appreciate the 'damage is done' line. I think this song is an attempt by Liz to clear her conscious a bit by putting to words/music her thoughts of her divorce and subsequent male carousing. It's hard on children , esp one of her sons' age, not to have dad around and see mom with different people in her bed. I found the song to be immediately likable melody wise and see no reason to hate it unlike the underwear song. In fact the more time wears on the more of a difference I see in the "matrix" produced ilk and the songs that Liz had more of a hand in. The matrix crap is just that - crap. _________________________________________________________________ Shop online for kids toys by age group, price range, and toy category at MSN Shopping. Then she asked out of her record deal. "The major label country thing is all about radio," Moorer says. "If that doesn't happen, you're fucked. Seriously. They give up on your record, and it's dead. On the last studio album, Miss Fortune, the label told me, 'We're going to work this record for eighteen months.' It came out in August, and at the end of November they were going, 'There's just nothing on here that radio is going to play.' How does that make a person feel?" That's why Moorer brought her new album The Duel, due April 13th, to Sugar Hill Records (Nickel Creek, Dolly Parton). It will be her first release on an independent label. "Sugar Hill will be more committed," she says. "Honestly, they don't have Universal money. They can't afford to just throw shit at the wall and see what sticks. They have to stick with something if they make an investment. They put hands on the rock and push up the hill." Moorer co-wrote The Duel with husband Butch Primm, and she recorded the eleven songs in twelve days, backed by a band consisting of multi-instrumentalist John Davis of Superdrag, guitarist Adam Landry (Stateside) and producer R.S. Field (Buddy Guy, John Mayall). "I think it's the rawest, realest thing I've ever done," says Moorer. "It was very in the moment, a very inspired project, a very intense couple weeks for everybody involved." But ultimately the experience affirmed Moorer's decision to operate off of Nashville's rigid grid. "I'm distancing myself from that as far as I can," she says. "The only thing I have to do with Nashville is that I live here." _________________________________________________________________ Our best dial-up offer is back.
