I guess it should come as no surprise that 'little digger' really appeals to the hardcorest members of the school of concrete thought. Abstract thought is great. But if the meaning is lost in the translation, it's futile. Anyway, what I want to know is what the consensus is on "Little Digger". Do most people like it because it really puts the point across or hate it because (from what I can make of the metaphor) it's obvious? I can tell you that I like it, simply because it sounds good. But then again I like "The Underwear Song". Again, because it sounds good, but not that I would ever quote something from the lyrical content... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 04 Dec 2003 09:46:22 -0500 From: Dan MacDonald Subject: [support-system] liz on the chopping block okay i'm a slacker, i never watch any television - but what is this about liz being in some kind of slam-fest on VH1?? is there an internet link or anything? i'm intrigued. dan ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Dec 2003 09:50:23 -0800 From: "dana p." 'tis the season.... >> >I find this so ironic. LIZ was one of the people on I love the 80s who made fun of other artists. now she is on the chopping block. I just wasn't expecting it - liz always seemed like vh1's pet. she was even on the "big in 2003" awards. well, exactly... it's all so "what? it's good-natured ribbing... no, REALLY.... we love you... no REALLY...." i'm not sure what that other comment about my post was saying. my point is that liz was certainly aware of the negative reactions among the minions, and that can be blown off as ill-informed whatever, but when what's-her-name wrote up a big, nasty review in the NY Times, well... and, honestly, i don't think the video, like, *sucks*. i'm betting she doesn't either. i think she knows that's not the issue. so, now she's gotta take one for the team--again. ha! after all this i bet the next batch of songs contains gems detailing various revenge fantasies and mass murder. her revised new year's resolutions....? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 4 Dec 2003 17:46:13 -0500 From: "Jim" Subject: Re: [support-system] Little Digger I love the song, musically and lyrically. Liz's voice is amazing on it, still keeping her style of high to low vocals. It doesn't matter to me that it's obvious. It's truth. A song doesn't have to deliver some great mystical revelation to be relevant. Digger has a personal touch for me, because I was in a situation like that. And it was exactly like that. And to be brutally honest, I don't give a flying crap if no one else likes it. :P Fortunately, what I like is what I like.
