My heart sank when I heard the news. I just can't believe it. I don't really know what to say -- I'm at a loss for words. Rest in peace, Elliott. Thanks for the music. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Oct 2003 04:15:43 -0400 From: Jase Subject: [support-system] Bounced message From: "dana p." Date: Mon, 20 Oct 2003 10:31:52 -0700 : : a few quotes from the previous digest: [ I do not fully agree; if she forced herself to meet fans every night (even if she didn't feel up to it), I would say that she was a nice artist who cared a lot for her fans*** I do a lot of things that I don't want to... just because Liz is a "rock star" doesn't mean she is exempt from doing the same. this is her career - this is how she makes a living. I don't know any hard-working/successful person who doesn't do things simply because they aren't up to it. she has to put herself out there to people - she has to sell herself (sad but true).]*** [With Liz, I get the feeling we should be honored by her presence. I absolutely despise those meet 'n' greets, which, yes, I consider "professionally cold." I could understand during the early years when she was awkward and nervous, and you wouldn't really expect to see her chattin' it up . . . it was part of the mystique. But now she wants to be a rock star and everyone to love her. Unfortunately this mix of personalities just isn't working.]***HA! so it's true, then; i am not the only one noticing this.... 'cause, yeah, my whole point with all that was here she is, vying for worldwide fame and to be loved by the masses, and for some strange reason this highly intelligent person can't see the overall benefit of "reaching out" and how it would help her cause manyfold. something so simple would have a ton of benefi t. *that's* the point. it's not about being smarmy and "hello, cleveland." so, good, i'm not the only one noticing that she acts put-upon when having to get out there are work the contacts, i.e., the audience (!!!). i mean, it's just good for everyone. is that so wrong? and, honestly, if she was really truly "being herself" on this one, she wouldn't be touring at all. i think the only reason she's doing it is because it's a chance to wear new outfits and hav! e people look at her. i'm not kidding. look, but don't touch! ***anyway, back to work for me.... i hope everyone's doing well. xoxox---D ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Oct 2003 01:40:25 -0700 From: "nickn626" Subject: [support-system] Now that's what I call Liz! This may be old news but I just saw a TV ad for the new Now That's What I Call Music collection (#14) and it has "Why Can't I" on it. There's also a DVD version with the videos, apparently. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Oct 2003 06:35:04 -0400 From: Dominic Subject: [support-system] OT : Elliott Smith dies at 34 I'm devastated.... Yeah, count me in. :^( I can't say I was a huge fan, I really only know "XO", but it's an album I adore and I wore it out in my car CD player. I saw him perform at (i think) Irving Plaza a few years ago. There's something supremely bummy (understatement, I know) when people who write lyrics that speak to you end up offing themselves. There's just too many instances... - --Catherine ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Oct 2003 19:57:41 -0400 From: Charles M Subject: [support-system] Liz sings "Winter Wonderland"... ...on a new compilation disc called Sounds of the Season: The NBC Holiday Collection.
