"Why Can't I?" is steady at #53 on the Hot 100, although it has increased airplay over last week. I don't know any hard-working/successful person who doesn't do things simply because they aren't up to it. she has to put herself out there to people - she has to sell herself (sad but true). maybe *we,* the long time fans, understand that it is a bit shallow to ask for an autograph, but I sure as hell will not argue that I feel flattered and appreciated when an artist I admire gives me the time of day and treats me like we're on the same level. that is how artists make fans... from the few liz encounters I've had, I can honestly say she is not very good at doing this. I'm not condemning her - it's a flaw in her personality - EVERYONE has flaws. Its just that Liz herself talks about how she wants to be "professional" these days when it comes to promoting herself and her music. I find her to be extremely hypocritical at times. I recommend that she bite the bullet, and do it for her fans (especially her fans, who feel so betrayed already from her comments to the press) AND for her career. mike ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Oct 2003 15:26:44 EDT From: TitleTK@aol.com Subject: Re: [support-system] re: kim deal In a message dated 10/19/2003 1:43:06 PM Central Standard Time, katsooo@msn.com writes: > I recommend that she bite the bullet, and do it for her > fans (especially her fans, who feel so betrayed already from her comments to > the press) AND for her career. > Personally, I wish she'd "want" to connenct to her fans. Kim Deal (I'm sorry for the constant comparison, but I think it is appropriate) will sometimes take half an hour after the show and sign autographs and chat with the audience and sometimes she doesen't. Sometimes she comes out and watches the opening band and sometimes she's in the back watching Buffy. If she doesn't stop to talk to you, it's because she's honestly busy. She's just having a good time and enjoys what she does and is happy you enjoy it to. With Liz, I get the feeling we should be honored by her presence. I absolutely despise those meet 'n' greets, which, yes, I consider "professionally cold." I could understand during the early years when she was awkward and nervous, and you wouldn't really expect to see her chattin' it up . . . it was part of the mystique. But now she wants to be a rock star and everyone to love her. Unfortunately this mix of personalities just isn't working. The album was a failure in that it didn't accomplish much more enthusiam than did WCSE. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Oct 2003 15:46:12 -0400 From: "Daaaaan Theman" Subject: [support-system] liz on z100 I just happened to be visiting my parents on friday in New Jersey and was driving my old car and just happened to have the radio on, which I never listen to, when to my surpprise, I heard liz hosting a show on the super cheesy (bust most popular NYC radio station) Z100 (run on setence, I know). I was not impressed in the slightest. Now her CD's in NYC record stores say "As heard on z100". I know I defended her new album a lot, but this was definiely a new low for her. I think any of the artisctic credibilty she once had is vanishing quickly. On the other hand, has anyone made mp3's of Don't Apologize, and the cd versions of Jeremy Engle, and It's Fine? I'd love to hear the whole version of DA (a small clip is streaming at the trampoline records website), and the higher bitrate versions of JE, and IF. - -daniel - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Cheer a special someone with a fun Halloween eCard from American Greetings! ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V6 #280 ************************************
