There is a B&W photo that goes with it that is Liz holding a sun umbrella and smiling. It's on their web site, but only if you're a paying member. I may transcribe it this weekend, if I have time. Also, is anyone going to the LA show this wednesday? I may try to buy a ticket at the door the night of the show (worked last time), but I don't like going alone. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Sep 2003 17:10:04 +1000 From: s.fried@ugrad.unimelb.edu.au Subject: [support-system] Tegan and Sara.... >just like tegan and sarah and ani difranco. tegan and sarah sound just like her on the first album. i was almost wondering why there wasn't a fucking lawsuit.< Hey, hey, T & S are great! Admittely haven't heard the first album (since from the sounds of things, NOWHERE in Australia has it - it better pop up somewhere here soon damnit) but their 2nd album doesn't and their 2nd album is awesome - best album I've bought since Sarah Harmer's You were here (which was oh 2 years ago). Liz has finally made the Billboard Hot 100 with "Why Can't I?" There is a short story about it at Billboard.com: >>PHAIR GROUND: After almost nine years, Liz Phair has to give up her status as a one-hit wonder on Billboard's Hot 100. She was signed to Matador/Atlantic when "Supernova" peaked at No. 78 the week of Nov. 26, 1994. That single was her only chart entry until now. Currently signed to Capitol, Phair debuts at No. 76 with "Why Can't I." So she not only loses her one-hit wonder tag, she surpasses the peak position of "Supernova."<< That's pretty much the whole piece, it goes on to talk about Kelly Clarkson, Stacie Orrico and Dido also being new to the chart. The single has made the Hot 100 due to its debut at #75 on the 75 position Hot 100 Airplay chart which measures airplay across all formats. It has also debuted at #36 on the Mainstream Top 40 airplay chart. It is at #11 on the Adult Top 40 airplay chart, down one spot on last week but with increased audience. The album is not performing so well, despite the increase on the single. It is at #121 this week, down from #114 last week and #110 the previous week. It's obviously over a month old, but I got several laughs in re-reading it. Some good and valid points made as well. DC Review: Venue is the only really hot thing at triple-bill concert 08/03/2003 By MATT WEITZ / Special Contributor to The Dallas Morning News Friday night's triple bill of Sondre Lerche, Liz Phair and headliner Jason Mraz was a night's worth of lessons for area clubgoers. For one thing, the Granada Theater showed that it now poses a serious challenge to Deep Ellum Live as the most oversold, uncomfortable, heat-intensive venue in town. The Granada's former beer-with-your-movie marketing plan seems to have been replaced by one of heatstroke with your music. However unfortunately, the full house Friday indicated that the plan appears to be working. For another, there was a convincing argument made for aggressively maintaining your career, lest you end up like Liz Phair a one-time indie star with years of experience who through sheer inaction now finds herself in the unenviable position of opening for a faux-naif bit of fluff like Mr. Mraz. Ms. Phair was at least spared the indignity of having to open for underfed Northern European nuevo-folkie Mr. Lerche at least on this tour. Looking every bit the summertime party girl with her long blond hair and cutoffs, Ms. Phair gave a thorough tour of her songs, from the career- defining album Exile in Guyville ("6'1," "Glory," "Never Said") to more recent work like this year's eponymous release (including the songs "Little Digger," about her son's reaction to a boyfriend, and "Extraordinary") and 1998's puzzling whitechocolatespacegg (the title track and "Uncle Alvarez"). In between tunes, she changed guitar more than any rhythm guitarist should have to I mean, who are you, Skunk Baxter? But when Mr. Mraz took the stage (after an inexplicably long delay) you couldn't avoid the conclusion that cuteness, chickens and cruising around in a '62 Buick LeSabre as he did in his popular video for "The Remedy" don't necessarily add up to anything worth giving a damn about. That didn't stop his mostly collegiate crowd from hooting, whooping and leaping around as if his act were something actually new and interesting. Granted, it was musically accomplished, with a large band pushing out a full, people-pleasin' sound. But is this sort of heedless appreciation somehow better if it's not directed toward Pat Green? The overall answer seemed to be no. A wandering dog's output could approximate Mr. Mraz's. That there are not as many present to applaud the canine's streetside efforts as there were Friday night to praise Mr. Mraz in no way reflects the quality of either offering. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 9 Sep 2003 00:44:43 EDT From: Lizphairfan@aol.com Subject: [support-system] lots of good liz download here Click here: supernova / the liz phair experience ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Sep 2003 18:39:33 -0700 (PDT) From: Michael Carapella Subject: [support-system] Liz show on Wednesday at the Avalon in Los Angeles I'm an on-again, off-again lister and I hopefully just got myself back on.
