Evan Rachel Wood (who was the younger daughter on the tv series Once & Again) does a terrific job playing the lead character. Her co-star Nikki Reed co-wrote the screenplay during winter break when she was in 8th grade. The character Wood plays is based on Reed and Holly Hunter plays the mother. Director Catherine Hardwicke was a production designer on films like Three Kings and Liquid Sky. Reed's father is her ex-boyfriend and she started taking Reed out on cultural outings to museums and other places. They set out to write a teen comedy, but realized Reed's own story was more compelling. Unfortunately, the website just has the trailer so far http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox_searchlight/thirteen/ It will start opening slowly around the country on Aug. 20th. You forgot the bassist, who looked like Joe Millionaire. I thought he was great when he held the bass vertically. It's a shame that the rest of the band showed no emotion. That's why I loved the 1999 college tour. Buddy Judge, you gotta love that. That band kicked butt, and they were older, hungrier, professionals. The current band seems like session guys. I must have been the only Liz fan on the floor at that Electric Factory show. The young girls around me gave me weird looks when I screamed "LIZ!!!!" I went up to the bar afterwards and I could pick out all the Liz fans, 30 year old guys in Elvis Costello t-shirts. Did I have fun? Sure. I met Liz. I simply cannot say enough about concerts gone by... and i'm still wondering who'll be my next idol. SO....one of my main goals this evening was to get a gift to liz (these little bags i make w/ legs -- if you can't visualize: www.angelfire.com/emo/sticks) and ask her to be a guest on my radio show next time she's in the boston area. i wanted to meet her backstage/by the bus after, but i thought i might as well try my luck w/ someone who was going ONstage. so the security guard passed back a note and the bags to the tuner/changer, who nodded to me, so i stopped freaking out about my game plan and tried to enjoy the show. tried. i mean, i did, but as other ppl mentioned, the show was very lackluster. liz didn't seem that into it, and often you couldn't even hear her singing, which was a shame, since i'd rather hear her voice than the standard band, which was pretty boring. the best part for me was at the end, when as she was taking off the guitar to leave, the guitar guy (now my favorite person ever) gave her the bags, and she held them up to the audience to wave goodbye as she exited! while the show itself wasn't so hot, that in itself made my year. i haven't been that excited since....i can't even remember. SO...does anyone have any photos of her exit? i was an ass and didn't bring a camera, and i'd like to have some kind of documentation for my "archives" (aka my parents want to see it). i left after that, hoping to catch her by the bus, tho first i saw some ppl come downstairs from backstage with autographed photos. (how did that happen? was that for VIPs up there? confused). but they said she'd already left, so i ran out to the bus, but apparently she really HAD left, for good. talked to some ppl there who said she ran out, said hi, signed a few things, then got into her limo and sped off. lalala. i think that's about it. mediocre show, great personal experience that probably no one else cares about. so, let me know if you have photos..... thank ya thank ya, allison ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Aug 2003 15:50:48 -0400 From: "S - Kon" Subject: [support-system] philly show it really sucks that the philly show was my first liz show ever. the crowd was lame [besides myself and the other 5 liz fans in the audience], the sound wasnt that good, and liz didnt seem that into it. but why should she? after all, she's an indie rock icon who had to open for flashinthepan jason mraz. [its such an affront to all liz fans and I'm sure to liz herself.] at the front of the line to get in, there was a guy handing out promo cards for liz, asking if anyone was there to see her specifically. I told him I was and he said that if I could name all four CDs I'd get a poster. DUH. whatever, the poster's really cool and has now taken its rightful place above my bed, right next to the venus zine and the 12X12 record store promo flat. I went with an old friend from high school and 4 of her friends from the Art Institute, all of whom were there to see Mraz. we ended up getting "seats" about 30 feet from the stage, back and to the right, directly behind two fucking frat boys who had something to prove -- they didnt BUDGE the entire show even though we were all about to be crushed into the back of them by the massive crowd. and the one with the hat, the motherfking bane of my existence, kept moving his fat head into my line of vision during the entire liz set. oh, and the KID next to us had it out for liz for some reason...he gave her the finger after the 1st song and screamed, "HOW MANY TIMES DID YOU HAVE TO FUCK JASON MRAZ TO GET ON THIS TOUR?" I turned around, ready to rip him a new one, when one of the art institute girls shoved him. he turned to me and said, "I'm sorry, I know you guys like her, but I think she fking sucks." and the art institute girl goes, "YEAH WELL YOU DONT HAVE TO ACT LIKE YOURE TWELVE YEARS OLD, ASSHOLE" and I could have kissed her right there. [to the kid's credit, when I was freaking out cos frat bastard #1 was ruining my view, he switched places with me so I could get a better view.] I should really stop complaining -- I enjoyed myself overall. it was great to finally see liz play after 5 years of waiting. she looked and sounded fantastic [everyone I was with was like, "wow, she's really hot. I love her outfit!"] and totally blew everyone away with Flower. and I got to meet her in that FYE sponsored thing after her set was over. !!! the second I stepped up to the little table, my mouth went dry and all I could manage in the first 30 seconds was a creepy smile and, "Hi." I told her all the typical teenage fan stuff ["OMG I've been listening to you since high school and I cant believe I'm meeting you, cos you're so UP THERE, you're like my favorite singer of all time...blah blah blah."] I ended up giving her this note I had written before the show in case I did indeed meet her, that said how much fun her new album was and that the indiefuck critics should all go fuck themselves and she should -- I shit you not [I have no idea why I thought it was good to write this] -- KOKO: keep on keeping on. in any case, she seemed flattered and said she'd read it on the ride home. I like to think that it will touch her so deeply that she'll tape it above her bedroom mirror for everyone to see. right. to whoever was looking for a ticket stub for the philly show: I have an extra. email me yr address and I'll send it off this week. xoxostacy _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: advanced junk mail protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 15 Aug 2003 13:31:17 -0700 (PDT) From: Easter Subject: [support-system] Re: Liz on GMA, Liz touring Europe?! I watched the last hr I didn't see her. They mentioned her and that it was still going to happen but they didn't show it. Atleast not in Chicago. Something else some of you might be interested in. I picked up a nifty little device for recording live shows. It's very small and pretty in expensive. It's called the RipFlash Trio, made by Pogo. I found it at compuplus.com. You also have to buy a small preamplified stereo mic to use as an input source. It records in mp3 format and is pretty easy to use.
