It is for me! Ummm... I *love* a lot of the songs she's written in the past 5+ years. What I value in Liz as a songwriter is her ability to combine catchy pop melodies with evocative lyrics. Let's put it this way: I like structure. I hate jams and freeform. A really climactic chorus makes me come, you know, in a metaphorical way... >:^) In my wittle opinion, "JeremyE." doesn't have the juice. > I can't imagine anyone not finding the lyrics interesting -- they're so funny. > They work in that whole "the story is in the details" sort of way. Yeah... I'm trying to get into it on that level. I'm trying to picture in my head what Jeremy looks like, how old he is, how he feels about Liz, etc. I dunno... maybe I had too much buildup for it... everyone seemed to be mad about it, and I guess I was expecting fireworks that I didn't get. Rest assured, if I change my mind, I will publicly dig into a big ol' dish of crow casserole. - --Catherine ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Jul 2003 06:49:39 -0500 From: "Brooke, Robert" Subject: RE: Extraordinary >>Just a question for debate- does anybody think that the album would be doing better if Extraordinary was the single?<< I think so. Extraordinary is a real upbeat song with a positive message. Why Can't I is a little bit of a downer. Something that you can't have and all of these little problem in life that won't let you be free to explore new ventures. It can be my mood down a bit. Also when she plays WCI live, she not really playing as it was produced on the Cd. Extraordinary would be a much better first single. I am Extraordinary. Subject: i concur i do. "extraordinary"'s a much catchier tune. plus, it's all about "check it out!!"; it's more brazen, which is, i think, what you want if you're gonna use the strategy they're using (hard-sell pop princess). i think "why can't i?" is being used on the strength of its video, which, i have to say, is pretty good. that "new video technique" is used to great effect here. anyway.... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Jul 2003 12:30:27 -0400 From: Jase Subject: Billboard The new album chart has just been posted at billboard.com. Despite the fact that "Why Can't I?" is No. 19 at Hot AC radio and No. 24 at Triple A (according to the airplay charts at radioandrecords.com), the new album dropped from No. 27 to No. 57 this week. According to a post on the Velvet Rope, the album has sold about 55,000 copies since its release (including the 35,000 that were sold the first week). Actually, the song is tied for No. 5 on the Most Picked on the Hot Picks page. This is where the top 40 programmers use their ears and pick the tunes they think will help make them winners with their target audiences. Their were 84 programmers who listed their top picks. 7 of them picked WCI. No. 1 was Justin Timberlake's song was picked 26 times No. 2 Christina Agui-whatshername was picked 11 times so WCI's 7 picks isn't too shabby. Only time will tell how it will do though. In other words, mainstream hit, right up there with say, Michelle Branch. Interesting. Let's see what happens, I think Captiol is really taking a chance here, that might not work.
