I just watched the video from the Web site and I didn't notice any gold chains. I did, however, notice that she had the Avril-skinny-tie thing happening in those shots. I guess it makes sense -- if you're going to hire Avril's production team, why not get her stylists as well? And am I wrong, but does the green shirt she's wearing in those shots have the cover of the first Clash album on it? I want to give her points for that, but you kind of wonder if it's another stylist ploy, similar to those shots of Justin Timberlake wearing a MC5 shirt -- in other words, a misguided lunge at credibility. Only in Liz's case, she may actually be familiar with the music of the band whose shirt she's sporting. Ah well, those are just superficial criticisms, anyway. Overall, I liked the video a lot. It's a lot of fun to watch and Liz looks like she's enjoying herself. I know Steve had mentioned that it was reminiscent of the "Supernova" video, and while I can see where he's coming from, it reminds me even more of the "Never Said" video. Girls! Girls! 6) Rock Me 7) Love/Hate Transmission 8) Johnny Feelgood 9) Cinco De Mayo 10) Extraordinary 11) Red Light Fever (or Firewalker) 12) Support System 13) What Makes You Happy 14) 6'1" 15) Mesmerizing 16) Friend of Mine 17) Why Can't I 18) Fuck And Run 19) May Queen encore 20) Perfect World 21) Stratford-On-Guy 22) Strange Loop breakdown: EIG - 6; W-S - 5; wcse - 3; LP - 8. i think that's a fairly conservative breakdown of how the show is going to be. i think the first 4 songs would be a great kick-off. i think Girls! (x3) would be a good lead-in to Rock Me. i think Friend of Mine should be played late in the set-list. she might as well lead Why Can't I into Fuck And Run. and i hope to God she ends either the show or the encore with one of my 2 favorite endings. what's obviously missing? Polyester Bride (which will surely be played -- gotta play "the hits," right?) which i don't like too much. H.W.C. & Flower, her songs with the most press. Never Said, Divorce Song and Explain It To Me. not that i'd like to lose these songs, but SOMETHING'S going to be sacrificed. DREAM SET LIST 1) Bionic Eyes 2) It's Sweet 3) Erecting A Movie Star 4) Jealousy 5) Headache 6) Ride 7) 6'1" 8) Help Me Mary 9) Love/Hate Transmission 10) Johnny Feelgood 11) Cinco De Mayo 12) Baby Got Going 13) Support System 14) Shatter 15) Perfect World 16) Mesmerizing 17) What Makes You Happy 18) Stuck On An Island 19) Red Light Fever 20) Friend of Mine 21) Crater Lake 22) Stratford-On-Guy 23) Strange Loop encore 23) Bars of The Bed 24) Bloodkeeper 25) May Queen i'm not sure too much explanation is needed. In all the confusion I must have mistaken one trend-hound ploy with another. I was way off base questioning that fashion choice. I take it all back, I promise.....just kidding. Actually the tie thing is much funnier than my lame attempt at humor. I'm anxiously awaiting for liz to show up in one of these photo shoots with her first piercing. The video.....I like the the faux elvis 68 comeback shots (they should have put her in a leather jumpsuit, though) but other than that the video seems to be pretty standard issue, much like the song. For those wanting to get the video on tape, set your vcrs for 10am to 11am on vh1 in the usa. this is the new music block on vh1 and they have shown it in this block everyday this week so far. later robert __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? No kidding. The Gallery, the Video page, the nods to the fan websites - -- the only bullshit I spied was the Biography for the new album. Be sure to click on "view more" at the Video page -- you can see every Liz video there ever was in high quality. Kick-ass. I definitely miss the seemingly tossed-off artfulness of earlier promo things, which was attributable to Matador's sensibilities and Liz's own background as a visual artist, but for what this new thing is, I guess it's pretty cool. I saw "Why Can't I" on VH1 this morning, and I was right about watching it with the sound off on a computer. Somehow, on VH1, with those ridiculous lyrics, it's a lot less cool. I have to agree with Joyner about the Elvis '68 Comeback thing, that's probably my favorite part, too. And Jase was right about the "Never Said" connection, I forgot about that one. From "Paper", June/July 2003. LIZ PHAIR Liz Phair (Capitol) For her first album, 1993's "Exile in Guyville", a young and broke Liz Phair recorded an ambitious collection of pussy- power / '90s-femme anthems in her bedroom. On follow-ups like "Juvenilia" and "Whip-Smart", she kept going, spilling lyrics that fell on just the right side of bizarre (oversexed bulls, batmobiles). On her fourth album, she's as sick as ever. Though the instrumentation and arrangements are some of the least inspiring Phair has recorded, her voice -- one of the sweetest in pop -- gives respite. She's weathered a divorce in the four years since her last, dynamite album, "whitechocolatespaceegg", and she offers only hints of nostalgia -- like on the pretty "Little Digger" and "Love/Hate Transmission". Mostly, she's just boy crazy. Life in the dating pool finds Liz pining for impoverished, video-game- obsessed losers who live on the Lower East Side. On "Rock Me", she wants to play Xbox on the floor and hang out with her boy's roomies. In "Favorite", she compares her lover to her favorite pair of underwear ("I'll leave you on the bedroom floor / Hang you on the bathroom door / I'm slipping you on again"). "H.W.C." is a shout-out to hot, white cum. Yes, we know she's brilliant, but this might be just a little too silly.
