It was amazing. Well, the Lips were amazing. Liz was ok, nothing special. You have no idea how much that depresses me to say. She just, didn't fit in. It's like she was trying so hard to be cool, and then there are the Lips... With all of their balloons and happy heart messsages and lights and audience participation... Goddamn, that was the most fun I've ever been to at a show. Ok, back to Liz. The set list was as follows: 1. Stratford on Guy 2. Johnny Sunshine 3. Why Can't I 4. H.W.C. 5. Supernova 6. Fuck and Run She wouldn't stop smiling the whole time, and adjusting the camera that was positioned on her mic, plastering her face all over this huge screen behind her. For those of you who wanna know what she was wearing.... A maroon top. Black panties. Fishnet stockings. And a campy fedora hat thingy which she threw off during Supernova. I'll give her a little bit of leeway (sp?) there, it was about 105 in the room. God bless Texas. I hooked myself up with a Liz Phair baby tee and I grabbed a stack of Liz postcard-ish things. I have about 20 of them, so if anyone is interested, e-mail me and I can send it to you. - - Erin Free online calendar with sync to Outlook(TM). ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Jun 2003 07:20:10 EDT From: LilRussianGirl@aol.com Subject: Venus aricle quesiosn Questions from reading the Venus article: >> I meant having stuff on the record like "Love/Hate," "Firewalker", "Same Old Guy", "Hot White Cum", and "Good Love Never Dies". So - any guesses? Which song on the album is "same old guy"? I assume that the title got changed. >>Yeah, John Henderson. That was just a little segue-way, but I guess the Girlysound stuff had already reached the ears of Matador or had come close to it so that by the time Hendy and I had a really big fight..... She has said that there was a real "Henry" - perhaps "Henry" was actually "Hendy"????? Just a thought... (Gosh, I'm typing this thinking that we have been analyzing Liz and her lyrics for years. Ten years of analyzing, considering, appreciating Liz Phair. I love what you do Liz, but maybe we should really get a life......) >>A lot of the stuff that I wrote, I'm thinking of a couple of good songs right now, there are a bunch of songs that didn't make the record that will come out on the Web site or will come out in some other form. We're still kind of arguing about what that form will take because I don't feel like giving away a bunch more songs for no extra money. Has there been any more talk of the web based monthly service? Any one know? ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Jun 2003 14:32:48 EDT From: NDisgize2@aol.com Subject: Tonight show. Hey everyone... I was speechless after the last show and am moreso now and getting a much ebtter position in the crowd. Shes just amazing. I just wish it hadn't been 5 years between now and seeing her at the Lilith Fair. She looked really good tonight and was away from the uniform-esque green skirt/shorts in a white shirt, a light-colored skirt and some green boots. The Austin show had a bit of a different set-list from the LA show: Johnny Feelgood Extraordinary Divorce Song Rock Me Fuck and Run Supernova A duet for Whats-his-name from the Flaming Lips and his fiance(?) And one or two more songs that I just can't think of right now. The biggest difference to me was the removinging of Glory as the first song. I love Glory, but its not a lead-off track to me. I'm happy it was a different set, but at the same time it seemed even shorter than the LA show. The last song she did was a duet with the singer from the Starlight Mints. I'm not sure of the song's title, so someone please help me out. The chorus was along the lines of "But tonight, You belong to me..." Very folk-sy and traditional sounding so I'm sure its some well-known song thats just escaping me right now. I got a little bit of it on video, but it didnt' come out well at all... like the rest of the pictures I tried to take. She walked within a few feet of me later on when she was walkign out of the back-stage area but I completely froze when she did and it was only for a second between a few doors. So close. Anyway, it was a great show and Liz did say that it was the last of the "intimate" shows that shes playing. Oh, and Liz said it best when she said "Fuck, its hot out here." I'm sure more will come to me later, but do you really care anymore to listen to me rant? Meh, its all good. John-Paul Austin, TX NP: Stiff Little Fingers - No Sleep Til Belfast ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Jun 2003 22:43:10 -0500 From: David Crider Subject: Dallas show at the Granada Theater 06/10/2003 (where the air conditioner works real well until there are people inside) What a great 9 days - Buzzcocks and X last Sunday and Monday, Pearl Jam this Monday and Liz last night. It was hot, uncomfortable and sticky. The doors opened an hour late, the show started an hour late. I was still feeling the effects of Pearl Jam the night before. I went to Liz alone, so I couldn't move or I would lose my spot. I was pretty miserable until... Liz walked out on stage to a great applause. , strapped on her Strat and opened with Stratford on Guy Johnny Feelgood Why Can't I "a new song" Divorce Song "one of my most requested songs" H.W.C. "do you want a rocking song or a dirty song?" crowd overwhelmingly shouts "DIRTY." Liz says something like "OK this song gotten me in alot of trouble lately. It's called HWC." The girl standing next to me asks to no one in particular, what does that stand for. I, of course feel obliged to tell her. The look of surprise on her face was priceless. Supernova - very well received Fuck and Run - kind of off mike to the lead guitarist "Rock Me or Fuck and Run?" People that heard shouted Fuck and Run and then it was over... The HWC girl (who it turns out didn't know anything about Liz) said Well that was way too short. I agreed. So my first time seeing Liz was abbreviated, but great all the same. She was wearing an extraordinary short shorts outfit with black fish nets not unlike the new CD cover, except they were tan with a matching tan shirt and english style cap. The cap came off sometime in the middle of her set. During the Starlight Mints, Liz was wearing a white mini-skirt while she watched. Funny moment during the Flaming Lips - Wayne was thanking Starlight Mints (who I thought had 2 really good songs) and then Liz for opening. Wayne says "Liz was running around backstage trying to figure out what to wear that would be both comfortable and sexy. I think she succeeded, but what do you guys think about the hat? Yes or no." There were more no's to the hat, but he asked again "Wait, I want this to be clear - all for the hat? all for no hat So the no-hats win" Audience chants No hat No Hat No Hat! Well, maybe you had to be there... David ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V6 #148 ************************************
