Now that is bizarre. james ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Jun 2003 10:26:44 -0400 (EDT) From: Valerie Subject: liz in atl - the dl so i looked up the alleged atlanta liz show on august 8...it does indeed exist, as part of the star 94 "on the bricks" summer series at centennial olympic park. star 94 is the "family friendly" pop station, and liz is sandwiched between *gulp* hootie & the blowfish and *ahem* tonic. let her cry, indeed. they have weird lineups...the other week, jennifer love hewitt opened for arrested development. uh, yeah. i went to a couple of the shows last year, and it's not a bad setup, actually quite nice if it's a nice night. and hey, it's $3 admission. i'll be there with bells on, praying for a good set list and wishing we were west-coast-cool so she'd come with the lips instead. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 10 Jun 2003 10:54:23 -0400 From: "Chris DeLisle" Subject: archives / Rolling Stones just going through Ken Lee's NEWS archives, and do you realize that: 1) "Down" came out 2 years ago? 2) the Julie Johnson songs were also going to be released 2 years ago? 3) 4-25-01: Liz Phair To Wrap Up Fourth Album Soon: Singer has about 35 songs already in contention for follow up to "Whitechocolatespaceegg" was a news item? 4) 1-11-01 New Album Expected Mid-2001 5) the lyrics to "My Mistake" were released to us via e-mail on November 4, 1999? it's interesting to walk through the recent past of all this news. it all seems like just a few months ago when all this happened... *** just a theory: lyrically, Liz has finally reached "the Rolling Stones" zone when it comes to lyrics on the new record. one of my contentions about why EIG was so much better than EOMS was because EIG is something you and i could all relate to in some way, lyrically...but that the Rolling Stones' songs, no matter how great they were, didn't have anything emotionally you and i could hang on to. on the new record, maybe Liz was going for that "gut feeling" that she loves about the Rolling Stones' music. in doing so, it rocks out, but perhaps not all of the lyrics are going to knock us on our ass. now, granted, the Rolling Stones DID put out some meaningful songs through the years: Gimme Shelter, Sympathy For The Devil, Satisfaction, for example. but quite a few of their greatest songs ~ Can't You Hear Me Knocking?, Stray Cat Blues, Monkey Man to name just a few ~ really don't mean that much, lyrically, do they? just a theory. by the way, if anyone hasn't seen the movie "A Mighty Wind" (from Christopher Guest and the rest of the crew(s) that have made "Waiting For Guffman," "Best In Show" and "Spinal Tap," for that matter), i give it one of my highest recommendations. and the soundtrack has a folk version of the Stones' "Start Me Up" which is both beautiful and hilarious. chris deLisle ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V6 #147 ************************************
