Just saw this at radioandrecords.com: All's Phair At Hot AC Liz Phair wins Most Added honors at Hot AC radio this week as "Why Can't I?" - the lead single from her forthcoming self-titled album - earns 15 adds at the format. "Why Can't I?" also gains New & Active status at R&R's Hot AC chart. Phair will be opening for Flaming Lips from May 23- June 3 in primarily West Coast markets, performing her set acoustically. Her album is scheduled to reach stores on June 24. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 7 May 2003 11:29:18 -0700 (PDT) From: Al Madrid Subject: Love Hearing Liz on the Radio Star 98.7, a Clear Channel station here in L.A. has been playing "Why Can't I" quite a bit and the DJ's playing it are saying it is a cool new song from Liz Phair (I love that). I don't care what any of you who don't like Liz' new direction say, I FUCKIN LOVE hearing Liz Phair played on the radio and getting nice reviews. Callers have been calling in to ask who is that. Rock on Liz and I agree with those who say that those who think that her new music isn't vintage Liz really do have no clue. It is so Liz but just more polished. I've been listening to Liz since EIG. I love EIG, I love Girly Sounds, I love Bars of the Bed, I love Carnivore (LOVE BOTH VERSIONS), I love Whip Smart, and I like WCSE (but love a lot of the songs on there) and I love this new album. Liz, I hope you do make shitloads of money. You deserve it and deserve to take what Alanis took from you in the media spotlight. The rest of the country will now realize what we've all been raving about. "Why Can't I" has now made it to their official "Play list". By the way, I really don't like Star, but there isn't much to listen to (besides KCRW and sometimes KROQ) here in L.A. They do overplay a lot of the music, but I don't mind hearing a lot of Liz as I'm driving home from work or going to have drinks with some friends. http://www.star987.com/playlist.html Al :) __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I don't know why I find this so personally offenive, but I do. I would love to hear Liz on the radio . . . but I will ask one more time . . . please "explain it to me" how this is indeed vintage Liz. Maybe I really don't have a clue . . . and I'm not trying to be smart . . . I may be missing something . . . but these seem to be regular 'ol pop songs to me . . . I don't see anything grotesque or disturbing about them . . . I'm not saying that good music has to be grotesque or disturbing, but all of Liz's subsequent work is. This is why her work never made it into the mainstream and Alanis' did. Alanis may sing of going down on someone in a movie theater (. . . I change my mind, that mental image is extremely grotesque) but Liz talks about getting "fucked" when she was 12, and the most disturbing part is, she probably means it as a joke.
