Anyway, I'm glad she's changing "It's a War" back to "Love-Hate". Hopefully "Red Light" will have better lyrics than "Scared". They're...probably the exact same version...but still! Still. Also, I feel awful that I can't distribute this because I'd be freaking out too had I not snatched up one of the ebay copies. My CD-Burner stopped working when I switched to Windows XP. (If anybody wants to explain to me where I can download something that will do a driver installation for USB CDRW 6x46x burner, I'd greatly appreciate. I can't find anything to work anywhere, and my sister lost the CD that we used to...install it orginally.) I put "Extraordinary" and "Hot White Cum" up on KaZaA a night or two ago and tried to stay on like...at all times, but I still don't think anybody's downloaded them yet...so I feel like my efforts are futile. I have no means to upload them onto a website, and Hotmail doesn't let you send large files, so...yeah...KaZaA is the extent of my...whatever. Anyway...yeah...here's hoping the title changes mean slightly different versions...even though the CD's already pretty cool...with some programing. - -Mark _________________________________________________________________ Protect your PC - get McAfee.com VirusScan Online http://clinic.mcafee.com/clinic/ibuy/campaign.asp?cid=3963 ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 4 Apr 2003 23:21:01 -0800 (PST) From: Kate Stewart Subject: Okay, okay, okay. Ok, I will step in here and stop this insanity before ya'll self implode. I can certainly relate to the whole heroin-addict metaphor (Maybe we should start a 12 step program). So listen up. I WILL DO A CD TREE. For anyone who wants it. The rules are: 1. You must email me before April 15th and tell me you want one. 2. In this email, you must tell me if you have a cd burner or access to one. Be honest. Do your part to help your fellow comrades. On April 16th, I'll make a list and start assigning duties. I'll send out copies to people that have burners, etc. Please be patient. If this takes over my life and I flunk my classes, there will be hell to pay. Somebody better give me a job if that happens. A fun job. With lots of perks. If anyone would like to step in and be the ringleader, please, please be my guest. If anybody wants to send me some live stuff or videos, I would be much obliged. Hi again... Let me clear things up. There has been NO CHANGES to the album that is currently circulating. The song titles that are associated with the circulating copies are ones that were assumed by whoever had a copy of a copy. The ones I mentioned in my last post are the official titles. They are the same songs. Nothing different. Here's the breakdown, in case you wanted to know: 1. Extraordinary 2. Red Light Fever <-- thought to be titled Scared 3. Why Can't I? 4. It's Sweet <-- thought to be titled You're In Love With Me 5. Rock Me 6. Take a Look 7. Little Digger <-- thought to be titled My Mother Is Mine 8. Firewalker 9. Favorite <-- thought to be titled My Favorite Underwear 10. Love/Hate <-- thought to be titled It's A War 11. H.W.C. <-- well, no explanation needed here :) 12. Bionic Eyes 13. Friend of Mine 14. Good Love Never Dies (Alternate Mix) <-- thought to be titled Let The Night Come Let me quote Liz from one of our Q&A sessions: "The album is mixed and mastered, but I am ultra-thinking little things like time between songs, which master version to use, things you really don't need to know about but things I have micro-managed for as long as I have been making records." "You have to realize, the songs on the disc are my choices, feel very liberating to me. almost half are technically demos." I hope that clears things up a bit. - -Ken kenmlee@ix.netcom.com MeSmErIzInG - AnOtHeR LiZ PhAiR WeBsItE http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Club/2471/ ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 5 Apr 2003 05:52:00 -0800 (PST) From: Craig King Subject: KB I think Katie Brown said it all. I'm not asking for a copy of the album, just that debating the album be held off until the album is oficially released so that all of us can join in the discussion. Lani ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 05 Apr 2003 10:17:10 -0500 From: Sean Murdock Subject: Re: "Liz Phair" tracklisting OK, I'm going to speak up here. None of you will know who the hell I am, because although I've subscribed to this list for years, I've never once posted. I don't claim to be a die-hard Liz fan, but I *am* a fan, and she's the kind of artist that you have to *seek* info about, because she is almost criminally neglected by the mainstream (and by herself, really, given her ... um, sporadic recording history). Anyway, that's why I'm on this list, for information, to stay on top of things. My name is Sean, I'm 34 and married w/ 2 kids, so I probably don't fit the profile of most Liz fans. I was stunned by "Exile" in 1994, so I can say I've been on board since almost the beginning. Aaaaanyway, I think I bought the last CDR of "Happy Tragic Thing" from the guy who was e-baying them. He may well put it up again; he has sold 3 or 4 of them, one every few days, expecting a "Buy It Now" more than a bidding war, which was nice. Ordinarily, I wouldn't pay 15 bucks for a CD I'm going to buy again in June (and I *am* going to buy a proper copy), but June is a long way off, and given the crazy route the sessions for this album took, I thought there was still a chance that something could change, making the promo a source of early mixes and/or unreleased tracks. So I had to go for it, to quote Sylvester Stallone in "Over The Top." I'm not going to review it, because I only received it yesterday and heard it about 3 times (4th in progress as I type). Ken posted the tracklist (below), possibly provided by Liz herself (?), and there are several title differences, most of which ("It's Sweet"/"You're In Love WIth Me") I assume are just different titles for the same songs. Nevertheless, my question to Ken, who has posted both tracklists, is: When the title changed from HTT to LP, did any of the tracks change with it? Finally, on to the topic that is most important to those still reading: the pre-release distribution of the promo. The way I see it, once you've purchase a CDR (not even a real promo, which would arguably be a collector's item) of the album on ebay, you're tainted by the stink of copyright infringement, so there's no point in being all moral about not copying it for a fan. (Disclaimer: If you work in the industry and have integrity/employment reasons for not copying it, that's totally different. Fut if you're just a fan, like me, please.) Plus, anyone who thinks that the regulars here wouldn't buy the real CD if they had a copy beforehand just isn't paying attention. That said, I will burn 5 copies of this promo to whoever can offer me copies of what you die-hards would consider the best Liz boots -- the WCSE demos and Girlysounds CDs would top the list, of course. I'm interested more in rarities and studio tracks than live performances. I'm happy to spread this new album to the hardcore fans, and I agree that once an album has leaked, not having it for 3 months would be almost physically painful. I had a copy of "Love & Theft" (Bob Dylan) over a month before it came out, and I was still there on release day to buy it. If anyone is interested, please email me off-list. (I might as well throw this in while I'm at it -- I think Liz's idea to have exclusive outtakes on her website is an awesome idea. Just put some kind of password/keycode on each CD and then everyone who purchases the album can unlock the rest of the sessions! I've been wondering about who the men are in these songs too. I'm guessing the ex-husband makes an appearance on Extraordinary, Scared, My Favorite Underwear, Friend of Mine and Let the Night Come. And the new younger guy is perhaps in You're in Love with me, definitely Rock Me, My Mother is Mine, and Hot White Cum. But who knows.... maybe these are about 14 different guys or none in particular. As she has admitted in the past, she does have an imagination, and quite a fine one at that. Yahoo!
