I feel as antsy as the rest of you about hearing the new record. Liz is SOOO summer to me too, we're getting some really warm days around here and I'm jonesing to ride around with the windows down and discover this new sound of hers. everything i've heard so far i love. it's especially hard to wait while hearing the teeny details in the reviews. and obviously we're all gonna go out and buy the CD in june---duh. Ok so here's the thing with me, I'm moving from Virginia in about 2 weeks, to the san fernando valley area, just north of L.A. (I've lived in the northern/central virginia area my whole life,I'm 29 years old and have an 18-month-old son.) I just found out about our move on March 3, and since then the song "Go West" has a new effect on me and can make me cry in about a second. I mean I LOVE this song. It will forever remind me of this adventure on which I'm about to embark. So here I am, an east-coaster heading west, wondering what my new home willl be like and where Liz does her grocery shopping. Ok now in writing that, I think, how weird would that be??? In line behind Liz Phair buying bread or something? ha. Anyone here who can tell me what's great about LA and what sucks, I'd love to hear it. In closing, I'll just say that "Liz Phair" will rock no matter when we finally get to hear it. - ----ZeeBee - -----Original Message----- From: owner-support-system@smoe.org [mailto:owner-support-system@smoe.org Sent: Friday, April 04, 2003 1:58 AM To: support-system@smoe.org Subject: THE NEW ALBUM I hate to be a bugger, but I have to agree with all my fellow Lizters who lack the means and connections to obtain the new album... if you send me the new album, I WILL... 1. send you the blank cd on which to record it. 2. a VHS copy of FOUR live Liz shows 3. a RECEIPT to prove that I actually bought the album when it officially releases...just so you know I'm not a scammer....I'm just impatient. :) How pathetic is this? I don't really like the song all that much so I would say it doesn't work very well. It's kind of cheesy and the guitar solos are bad. It certainly doesn't wallop you like May Queen or Strange loop. In my opinion, Friend of Mine would be a better ending song. By the way, Extraordinary is a great opener. Kate Yahoo! The song is a tinged with melancholy resignation about the death of a relationship, the epilogue to a story that didn't end happily ever after. It's the final kiss-off, which thematically would fit well as an album ender. while it doesn't have the musical flourishes at the end like strange loop and may queen, I think it would make a strong album ender. The music doesn't overpower the song, letting the lyrics do more of the work. Let The Night Come seems a more open ended look to the future, still it hints at some of the same concepts of Friend of Mine. FOM just seems to have a little more resonance and clarity to it. Let the night come seemed kinda punchless, both lyrically and sonically, and repetitive backing up FOM on the album. ON another topic, anyone got any guesses about who "Scared" is about(btw, kate's right again, it is a bit overly long)? Seems to be about a guy caught between two relationships, not committing to either. "playing on both sides of the map" "why you're always running away" - to the other woman "sitting in your car, changing who you are" - putting on a new face depending on which woman he is with "Too scared to commit to even/leaving her" - self explanatory. okay. discuss. AND WHY IS NO ONE OFFERING TO TREE IT? <<<<<<<< I have to agree, Sandra. This list has been through a LOT over the years, given the lengths of the most major Liz-draughts, and there have been many times where the generosity of certain list members has pulled us through. - ---- There's the time Jase took the bus from Toronto to attend the infamous Lounge Ax show, due to the kindness of Janet who got him a ticket - this was the toughest ticket on ANY Liz tour to date. ---- Katie Lynne then spent *tons* of her time scanning all the lounge ax pictures so that those who weren't there could share in the madness many of us had experienced with Liz after the show. ---- At least three times on the 1998 college tour I was given rides to Liz shows from list members that didn't know me -- to venues that otherwise were not accessible to fans without cars. ------ And perhaps the best example is the time Ken Lee burned almost 1000 copies of the WSCE sessions for what? $5 a set? So my sister and former list-member Wendy and I waited an hour after a show in Providence to have Liz address and sign a WCSE promo flat for Ken as a gift of thanks from the whole sup-sys community for making that happen. There are many examples of these RAOK, and of course several crappy times where the list was a war-zone for lashing opinions about ebay, napster, or dare-i-even-say-the-Al*n*s-word. Most of those people have fallen off ... but there are still good vibes around here. Everyone has their own opinions about sharing music that they don't exactly own. I know that I'm going to buy Liz's album at the first possible second, just 'cause that's the kind of fan i am. hell i have two different (released) versions of all of her other albums, just for collections sake. Deciding to purchase a cd-r of the album and THEN getting all super-moral about distributing it to the list is a load of horseshit. I'm not asking someone to burn it for me this second. I'm not gonna beg and honestly, I swear, this rant is almost over. But when tour comes around and you need an extra for a sold out show and those karma wheels start turning... think about what people on this list tend to do for one another... and maybe your gimme gimme mine mine mine attitude will take a different direction. If you need to flame me, please do so off list. I went on ebay and nuttin'. I will give my left arm to be able to listen to this CD. You'd think after people have been bitching and moaning for the past 4 years about a new album coming out by Liz that they would throw other people on the list a bone. It's not as if I am not going to buy the actual CD when it comes out too. Of course I will! It's Liz and I support her. But I'm also itching for this new album, ESPECIALLY when I have to read every single post from people about how GREAT the album is. Rubbing it in our faces!! I'm not angry, but just a little taken aback by the lack of comraderie on the list as of late..... - -Laura Yahoo!
