I personally am hoping for "Love/ Hate Transmission", "Stranger", and "Bouncers Conversation". Realistically though, if she wanted a strictly "rock" record, it'll probably be "Love/ Hate Transmission", "Don't Apologize", and "Firewalker"(which I think is cheesy). This is cool though that those songs might see the light of day and we can actually figure out what she's saying. If this is the case though, perhaps the other two R.Walt Vincent songs are one's we've heard as well. "Bouncer's Conversation" has this amazing riff though and the lyrics are some of her best. She did say that the album deals with her gender issues again, and so does that song. If this is the case, with potentially 5 songs we've already heard, plus "Take a Look", that means only 8 really new songs. I still can't wait, and if she uses those three songs I mentioned before I'd be very happy. I think they are some of her best. -dan - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Add photos to your messages with MSN 8. HAAhaahahahaaaa.... hee. i know. in other news, actually, in michael's defense (that was micheal, right?), i think what he means by "i want the young liz" is "i want the upstart, the girl just outta the gate with her brazen take and 'fuck you' attitude." am i right? 'cause that's always a wonderful thing, when there are no expectations yet and they can be who they are, more or less. i don't think he's bitching about chronology per se. and as for her "looking like an extra from 'moulin rouge,'" well, that already happened, in the push for WCSE. i saw her dolled up in freakishly hideous way many times. whatever. and, i don't care, that one levi's ad was *utterly horrific*. again, WHATever. (i think some stylist lost his or her mind on that one....) anyway, i know i need to respond to some e-mails i've gotten from a couple of you--sorry about that; i totally dropped the ball. school + work = insanity. gah!! peace and love to all dp ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Mar 2003 16:49:42 -0600 From: "Orange Nish" Subject: "Chicago" magazine blurb From Chicago magazines April edition, article Overrated and Underrated Chicago. The blurb was written by Greg Kot, and included a small photo of wcse. Rock Group Overrated: The Chicago rocker who has gained the most out of the least is Liz Phair. Her 1993 debut, Exile in Guyville, remains a signpost of the last decade. Exile isnt just smart and subversive; it rocks like the dickens. But Phair hasnt managed to do anything nearly as accomplished since. Its been more than four years since she last released an album (Capitol Records is expected to release her fourth album in May). Yet the singer-songwriter still remains something of a star in Chicago, even though she relocated to Los Angeles years ago to try her hand in movies and pose for a jeans ad. Countless lesser-known local bands have produced more accomplished music over a longer period, while Phair is starting to look more and more like shes a one-hit wonder. For those curious, the underrated band was Eleventh Dream Day. _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: smart spam protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Mar 2003 15:45:29 -0800 (PST) From: SHERLY McLACHLAN Subject: RE:CHICAGO (blurb) Hey To All; All I can say is what an ASS!!! Now to punch out a mirror in a Saigon hotel while drinking profusely and...nevermind. Curse you, Francis Ford Coppola. Previously, on support-system-digest: Stephen Griffes, of the University of Michigan writes in, and says the following: >huh? i dont really see what age has to do w/ anything. Someone who is in >their 30s can like "white hot cum" just as much as--or more than--someone >in their 20s. and goddamnit why not hot white cum. why white hot cum? am >i the only one who thinks about these things? maybe liz does too. Well, you got it right in the first five words, 'cause no, you don't see. I went back and read my original message to see if there was a possibility of confusion, but no, there's not really an opportunity to inject chronological, temporal, or whatever you want to call it age into the discussion. Rather, it's the "young Elvis", "new Elvis" kind of discussion, not so much where age or appearance has so much to do with the discussion, but rather the types of music and the place of the artist in time, not their age. Duh. In Phairian terms, the Liz Phair who made EIG isn't necessarily the Liz Phair who made wcse. This is not rocket science, and I am not making this up. If someone in their twenties wants to think about "HWC" or "WHC", well, _fine_. Ditto for someone in their thirties. That doesn't mean _me_ in my middish twenties want to hear about it. I quite honestly don't perceive any major distinction between either sequence of letters, and no, I don't think about these things. I doubt anyone on the rational side of life does. The particular epithet you attached to the instant question doesn't do much to endear your inquiry to me, either. Going on, I'm not encouraged by that whole quip, and it would be a shame for me to have to make an ECP CD without a song on it. The title is cringeworthy, much like that "Slave 4 U" crap or whatever it was that Spears released a few years ago. Even in the days of EIG, I never perceived her as wholly crass or crude; this, on the other hand, is a giant with-both-feet plunge into a cesspool of rude, crude, and socially unacceptable material. I'm fearing that ECP's boldly going where only half-wits like the Red Hot Chili Peppers have gone before. Is the state of Liz such that she must revert to cheap and tawdry song titles---one meant for titillation only, I fear---to get listeners? The day she plunges into that crummy 'sex rock' bit is the day I'm calmly erasing her from the "favorite artist" list, and resolving to speak of her only in the past tense in terms of "artist I like". Sheryl Crow, meet Liz Phair in "no longer musically relevant" land. Anyways. The bell tolls for thee, Saddam Hussein. I'm going to dredge up my copy of "Bars of the Bed" and try to figure out how best to extract primary vocal & guitar tracks from it; that, more than anything else she's done that I'm aware of, seems to be appropriate at the moment. The world is fine, Mr. Griffes. Soon it will be even better---another threat to American security will be erased, and yet one more nail will be driven in the coffin of Islamic terror.
