You seem to think I don't know what you're saying, but I know enough to know I don't care. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 19 Feb 2003 22:00:57 -0500 From: Jase Subject: Liz in Spin's "Essential Indie Rock" picks I haven't bought Spin magazine in quite a while now, but I just picked up the March 2003 issue and it looks like they now have a monthly feature called The Spin Record Guide (which they bill as "your monthly history of every cool album ever made"). This month's feature is on essential indie rock albums and among their ten picks (which weren't really ranked) is _Exile in Guyville_. This is what they wrote about it: "The self-professed Blowjob Queen of Oberlin's art history department, fizzy Lizzy gave voice to indie girls wondering why punk-rock boys got to sing all the cool, fucked-up-relationship songs. The strummy come-ons were just a trap -- you knew all along she was going to saw you off at the knees." It's kind of a glib description of the album and doesn't do it justice, but hell, if it inspires a few more people to check it out, I can't really complain. It was also nice to see Liz recognized alongside other favorites of mine like Pavement, Archers of Loaf, Yo La Tengo and Guided By Voices. For those who are interested, the other albums featured are as follows: Sebadoh - III Slint - Spiderland Unrest - Imperial F.F.R.R. The Vaselines - The Way of the Vaselines Guided By Voices - Bee Thousand Yo La Tengo - Painful Archers of Loaf - Icky Mettle Built to Spill - There's Nothing Wrong With Love Pavement - Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain Cheers, Jase ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 20 Feb 2003 00:00:09 -0500 From: "A. I'm seeing her show on Friday and I'm wondering how different the two shows will be, with Friday's being acoustic.
