[Jase ] Re: sorta liz ["Jeffrey Gray" ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 18 Feb 2003 10:46:07 -0500 From: Dan MacDonald Subject: ken's liz interview so far... awesome questions - and liz hasn't frightened me once with her responses, which i'm guessing is a good thing. i love the fact that she "owns guyville" (what a beautiful pun) and that she is debating a re-release with bonus material. of course, i am kind of doubting we'll ever see this - but it would be great and it's a nice thought. the questions i'm REALLY hyped for though, are any involving the girly sound demos. i'm dying to know what (if anything) she is planning to do with the remainders - if she ever listens to them, if she has dug up and reincarnated any for the new album... i'd much rather see a Girly Sound Masters release than a commemorative exile in guyville re-release. I know she's all for her music now - and she has always made references to her "that was then - this is now" stance on her music, but it really would be such a shame of songs like If I Ever Pay You Back or One Less Thing never get to see the real light of day. that's my suggestion - if the line of questioning is still going on... great, interesting stuff so far though! it's like a fun serial novel, really suspenseful and it's all being built up to that final climax in late may... i can't wait (even though i'll be fucking twenty six years old by then. time to grow up). dan ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Feb 2003 13:42:37 -0600 From: "sandra" Subject: two things first of all, ken lee rocks the house. i have never looked forward to my digests so much. how much fun have these interviews been??? and how clever of you to space them out the way you did. thanks so much. second, i'll be taking the liz mp3s i posted for jase down from my site soon. i need more room for baby-related stuff (but it's true ... sigh.) if you want to access them, have at it: http://www.coloransas.com/lizmp3s.html and dp, keep posting!! = ) whoops guess that's three things ... sandra ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Feb 2003 12:01:03 -0800 (PST) From: robert joyner Subject: a great mystery solved thanks to Ken's interview i was able to figure out something that had stumped me for years a Liz Phair fan. That being: Who the hell is Eden Wurmfeld? You know, the person Liz mentions at the very beginning of the Pottymouth Girl bootleg, wishing her a happy birthday and then saying she probably isn't even here before launching into the first song. I never could figure out the name. Evan Warfield. Erin Wurfell. Iman Morfeld. Totally stumped me. Then i read that interview that Ken did with Liz and she mentioned that one of her loftmantes in SF was Charles Wurmfeld so I looked him up on IMDB.com and what do you know, he has a sister named Eden Wurmfeld. Now almost 8 years down the line the mystery has been solved. Thanks Ken. BTW, great job with the interview. All your hard work on your site has paid off and caught LP's eye. later Robert ===== - ------------------------------------------------------------ Nashville - A Liz Phair Web Site http://www.geocities.com/robnashville - ------------------------------------------------------------ Yahoo! Is anyone else having problems posting? - JL] From: "Chipko ." Subject: help me mary Went to see mary Lorson play a gig in London last night. I thought i'd have to wait years to see her again as she was busy being a mother (son Roman born last july), but she's back and this time she was joined by partner Billy Cote, so lots of old Madder Rose stuff was on the cards, hopefully. There is also a plan to bring out a best of MR and Saint Low record and the couple have a new album of 'film' music just released, so it's good to see parenthood hasn't slowed things down, or got in the way of a european trip!!!!! The evening got off to a good start when Mary recognised me, i even got a kiss. Then it was on with the show, opening with 'Beautiful John', the pair had decided the new album was too slow to do live, so it was oldies all the way! Lots of Madder Rose stuff, including 'swim' and 'car song' (biggest cheer of the evening) and lots of Saint Low too, Billy adding guitar to songs where there was none previously and fitting in seemlessly. Mary has a good fan base in the UK and the crowd gave them a good reception, unlike the Belgian one the night before (they told stories of stoney silence at the end of songs there) and everyone went home happy, i feel. It's hard to believe she's a mum now, i saw her less than a year ago and she was thin and she's just the same now! The couple looked very happy playing together again as well, being able to slow the rock numbers right down and improvise in some parts, it just shows what great songs they wrote then and still do. If they come to your town, check them out. "i think of you all day long" *sigh* www.saintlow.com for info on Mary "and i wonder how i've come to know so much less than i knew before" ... If so, how is it? I had wanted to buy the album today, but the record store I usually shop at hadn't received their shipment of it yet. I'm going to try again tomorrow and hope I have better luck then. Also, an article was posted to another list I'm on that I thought might be of interest to some people here. Clear Channel Concerts, the largest concert promoter in the US, is planning to record live CDs of its shows and sell them to patrons within minutes of the shows' end. They're going to be using Boston as a test market for this. I like the idea of being able to purchase copies of shows that I've attended, provided that they would be soundboard recordings and the artist would receive some compensation. It beats regular bootlegs at the very least, although I wonder how they can turn these discs out so quickly -- are they going to bother splitting the show into separate tracks? Are the discs going to come with any artwork, song titles, etc.? Here's a link to the article for anyone who's interested: http://www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/038/living/Instant_live_CDs_of_a_concert_Testing_to_begin_in_Boston+.shtml Jase ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 18 Feb 2003 20:48:09 -0800 From: "Jeffrey Gray" Subject: Re: sorta liz Anyone going to the Cat Power show tonight at the Troubadour?
