For women that grew up being male-fixated, its long been appealing to keep it to yourself and make sure honeys happy. I dont think you can unravel that in thirty years. You cant unravel millennia in thirty years." Speaking of the Feminine Mystique, has anyone seen the Hours? Is it worth seeing? Saw Beth Orton Thursday night and she was absolutely BRILLANT!!! She played 20 songs, including all the songs of Daybreaker (Carmella being a highlight) and did 3 encores. Was fortunate enough to meet her afterwards, got her to sign my ticket and got a photo with her, woohoo! Only downpoints were when some idiot yelled out after the first song that he had paid $55 for this "crap" and when another idiot yelled out "take your top off", can't believe guys still do that at gigs, wankers. Has anyone ever been at a Liz concert when a guy's yelled out that? What did she say? Or did she just ignore it? Also, is anyone here into the Pastels or Ivy? I've just borrowed Mobile Safari and Apartment Life and quite liked both of them. Seeya, Sally "And why is it charming pretending I'm younger than my years?" Has >anyone ever been at a Liz concert when a guy's yelled out that? What did >she say? Or did she just ignore it? oh yeah- that happened at a liz show. i saw her in either late 1993 or early 1994 at Saint Andrews Hall in Detroit Michigan - this is before i was even a fan - i was actually dragged to see her (it was pre- Whip-Smart anyway because Support System and X-Ray Man were new songs..and she was actually TOURING with Brad Wood and Casey Rice as her back up band) anyway - - she gets on stage and this gigantic guy is yelling out about how much you could see Liz's nipples through her very thin shirt. but he was beyond annoying, he was like three feet from the stage and all the audience (and liz) could hear was this guy going on and on: "OH man! Look at those titty hard ons...oh man..those nipples...oh my god - look at those! is everyone else not seeing this?!? look at those nipples!!" and liz (who was obviously uncomfortable - i thought it was because of the shit this guy was saying, i found out later she had stage fright on top of this) got really bitchy with him, she tried ignoring him at first, then she started by throwing him nasty looks and i think she made a few comments like "Oh ...that's nice. real nice." and then he was yelling over her to sing Stratford-On-Guy and he was going on and on about that so finally - mid song - she stopped playing - pointed this guy out and said "Listen - you'll hear it when i get to it, alright?" and everyone was like "Ooooooooooh..." lots of guys were also yelling out stuff about "blowjob queen" and for her to sing Flower, at the time i had no idea what flower was - but i sure as hell did when she finally sang a rushed, nervous and FAST version of it. it was a pretty rude/obnoxious crowd, and that shocks me. the one guy was obviously some sort of "fan" if he knew Stratford-On-Guy, so i didn't understand why he would be so disrespectful. that surprises me about Beth Orton too. i can't believe that shit. i saw Beth Orton last fall (at Saint Andrews Hall again actually) and you could hear a pin drop in that place. all attention was focused on her, people hanging off her every word - it was nothing but respect, and well deserved. nothing can ruin a show more than an obnoxious fan. i was pushed within millimeters of elbowing this girl in the face at the last Breeders show i went to - and i think everyone around me would have kissed my feet if i had actually done it. i won't get into it - but i'll tell you this much: she dumped her water bottle on me and kicked me in the back just because she was loaded on coke and wanted everyone at the front to move out of her way "because she said so". but oh well. dan ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Feb 2003 20:05:55 -0800 From: Kenneth Lee Subject: the Liz interview part 5 Okay, here's the conclusion of the first set of questions I posed to Liz... Ken: Is the new album's release date really May 22nd? It falls on a Thursday, and usually new releases come out on Tuesdays. Liz: The cd is definitely coming out end of May. I hired a new manager, Greg Latterman, who is based in Chicago actually (how ironic). He seems like a very hooked in guy and had the most fascinating plans. We have so much work to do before then. Every time they test me on the phone and I say, implacably, "I am not missing my releases date," there is this silence for a moment when the mental work load kind of dumps on their heads for a moment, and then they draw breath and blood back to their brain and reply, "ok. We've got alot of work to do then." I don't care. I'm excited. Little shows are popping up, like the Fred FAbulous Five, or whatever they're called, Donovan Leitch's all star band, (He is such a cool cat, by the way)so I can fly out to the Grammies in NYC and do a song with them, maybe I will ask Ben Lee. David Gray, maybe, in LA. Starbucks party, maybe in Austin, S by SW. Little stuff. Rolling into bigger stuff. Rolling rolling rolling. Keep them doggies rolling. Keep them roadies loading, RAWHIDE! Actually, I've put forth the idea that I should tour in an air-stream mobile home, while the rest of the band and crew take a bus. Can you picture that? A Little silver sausage with some dumb-ass sponsor logo on the side. I thought it was hilarious, but it went over about as well as my idea, which I am dead serious about, to perform with a headset, Janet-jackson style, so that I can roam around the stage, sit cross-legged, dance around with freedom and impunity. It's so confining to strum strum away like I do and stand on my tiptoes to reach the mike, and I feel really constrained. My songs have so many words in them, (note to self: write more instrumental breaks) that I'm stuck, front and center, all the time. When I play at home, I walk around. Of course, no one is going for it. Ken: Is it a coincidence that the new album will be released 10 years since the release of "Exile in Guyville"? Liz: Ten years ago, to the May, Exile In Guyville came out. It is a coincidence, I didn't plan it, but it feels auspicious none- the-less. I own guyville. Get that. It reverted to me in 2000. Some lawyer forgot to wrap it up again in some negotiation with Capitol like they always do and it became my property 2 years ago. I haven't given up on the idea of rereleasing at Christmas 2003 as a ten year, with extra-special stuff- Brad remixing, controversial commentary, even the whole Wicker Park story, Urge, Hendy, Material issue, Casey, Idful, the Rainbow, Johnny Machine, Nasty Steve Albini, etc. But my feeble memory doesn't serve and I'd have recruit some serious support interviews to make it come alive. Again. Alot of work. I'm so relaxed tonight. I have a manager. I have a record. I have a label I love and everything to look forward to. Thanks for asking, -Liz So that's round one of my questions to Liz... - -Ken kenmlee@ix.netcom.com MeSmErIzInG - AnOtHeR LiZ PhAiR WeBsItE http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Club/2471/ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 17 Feb 2003 00:32:32 EST From: AWeiss4338@aol.com Subject: Re: the Liz interview part 5 In a message dated 2/16/2003 11:37:15 PM Eastern Standard Time, kenmlee@ix.netcom.com writes: > So that's round one of my questions to Liz... > And they've been extremely and interesting. Thanks for them. Liz really is something else, as in so cool. And the thought of a re-release of EIG with extras, I'd gladly pay anything for that. And I'm glad she owns it, very rarely does that happen. Can't wait for May, Andrea Wondering if NJ will get two feet of snow for real. ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V6 #39 ***********************************
