However, that's all cover for this relentlessly sexual double-entendre of a song. For examples, "come when called," "sing like a good canary" "i jump when you circle the chariot" "i clean my mouth because froth comes out," like the whole song is an excuse to be naughty. Or, maybe it's an examination of one woman's feelings of absolute, inescapable (save "sending it up on fire" and dying) subserviance to one man (or "dude") based solely on her sexual craving for him, represented here as more of a classic "bird in a cage" housewife. She's just a little carnal canary. Speaking of fucking Mariah Carey, and the fucking fact that she had a costume change during the goddamn halftime show of the NBA All-Star game, my uncle, and get the kind of fucked-up family I've been bred from, my fucking uncle is a huge Mariah Carey fan, but not so much of her music, if you get my drift. Anyway, he has a Siamese cat named, I shit you not, Mariah Kitty. Naturally, it's anti-social and mean as hell, but it can really hit those high notes. I got some album titles: Built to Spill - Perfect From Now On White Stripes - De Stilj Modest Mouse - This is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About Radiohead - OK Computer (this does for it me because you can say it so many different ways. Resigned ... sigh, ok computer. Super-pyshced ... OK! COMPUTER! Sarcastically ... pfft ... yeah, Oh Kay computer. It's fun) Tom Waits - Frank's Wild Years I'm pretty certain the absolute worst title of all time is "up" by Shania Twain, based solely on that little smug fucking smiley face above the "u" - I mean, who lacks that much fucking subtlety? Subject: beware the cat in the hat what does "canary" mean? seriously? see, i dunno, i think it's pretty obvious: ultimate female angst. the deep-seated fear of being rendered impotent by your gender role, more specifically that of "the little wife." thus "gunshy" is the corollary. she's old enough to have been influenced by those old, crusty--and ridiculously pernicious--gender stereotypes that everyone had to try to extricate themselves from. it sucked greatly. and just in time for valentine's day!! "let's drink a toast; the roast was just so perfectly prepared. now i know you care...." hahahahahaaaaaa.... anyway, it just occurred to me you probably weren't around for all that crap. lucky you. *seriously.* lurv, dp ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V6 #34 ***********************************
