Surf over and let me know what you think: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/discographer/liz/ Except for the Radio Shows section, which is empty (I accidentally borked the file), all of the release categories have a reasonably comprehensive listing of Liz's work to date. About 95% of the various artists promo compilations have detail pages, too. Let me know which sections or releases you would like to see added next; I'll continue adding more detail pages as time permits. Also, please let me know if you have or know of releases (especially non-U.S. releases) with Liz's material that are not currently listed -- I want to make the site the best reference tool possible. My thanks to Ken Lee (Mesmerizing), Jeff Doak (bliss & phetish), and Michael Honaker (Supernova: A Liz Phair Experience) for support. Ok, so which Liz CD (full-length or single) boasts your favorite cover/liner art? I vote for Juvenilia. It's simple yet edgy. And I like that she's wearing heels while preparing to kick yo ass. I vote for the cover of EIG. Being a wannabe-photographer, this cover says something to me, like "i'll say what i wanna say and you can fuck off if you don't like it". Liz just rocks, I think she was smart to have her first studio album cover show a bit of her attitude, the "fire" that makes her adamently free, right? - --ZeeBee - -----Original Message----- From: owner-support-system@smoe.org [mailto:owner-support-system@smoe.org]On Behalf Of Polygrrrl@aol.com Sent: Tuesday, January 21, 2003 2:19 AM To: support-system@smoe.org Subject: cover/liner art. They still have a copy because I just purchased the "Pottymouth Girl" bootleg from them on Saturday. I also found a copy of the "Glory" bootleg at a record store on St. Marks the other day. I think it was burned off the internet, but it's a great show. I didn't know she performed so many rare songs (6 I think) because it is not the correct tracklisting on the CD. She played that show really well for being solo, in most of her other solo performances, her voice is cracking really badly. I really love it though, even with the annoying 2 second gaps between the songs. I also love the song "Take a Look". It has really grown on me. I can't stop listening to it over, and over, and over again. I think her new album is going to be great, even if it is overproduced. I do feel though that she has compromised a lot, even if she is happy w/ the results. She feels that her new stuff is no longer a piece of art on the wall. But didn't she say in early "An Evening With" interviews that she really wanted her new album to be a "true work of art", or something like that? Oh well, I like some poppy stuff too. I must say I can't wait for the new Madonna album either, but that's really my only guilty pop pleasure. And that song "Skater Boy" by Avril Lavigne. I think if the Liz/ Matrix songs are fast and fun then they'll be awesome. Those Avriil ballads are really cheesy though. My favorite Liz songs? Hey to All; Sorry if this came across a few times had trouble with my email. Anyways we already know this is going to be a great year musically because Liz's will be out in May. I think Julianna Hatfield and Somegirls is due around the same time. Does anybody know about anyone else? Like Veruca Salt, L7, Courtney Love, Fiona Apple, Nina Gordon, Sarah McLachan and whoever else is out there. Looking forward to a better year than last!!! SMc Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. There's a lot of new stuff coming out this year that I'm looking forward to. Apart from Liz's record, there should be forthcoming releases from all of the following: Courtney Love (the first single, "Mono," should be out shortly, according to Alan McGee of Poptones, the label she's signing with in the UK) Cat Power (due out February 18) Stephen Malkmus (due out March 18) Kristin Hersh/Throwing Muses (both her new solo and Muses discs are due out in March) Yeah Yeah Yeahs (due out in April) Wilco (new EP with an alternate version of "Kamera" and some non-album tracks) Blur PJ Harvey The Distillers (due out late in the year, although I'm not sure if I can wait that long!) Sonic Youth (an expanded reissue of _Dirty_ is due out in March, to be followed later by reissues of _Daydream Nation_ and _Goo_) Fountains of Wayne Michael Penn (don't let the production job on "Take a Look" fool you -- his solo stuff is great) The White Stripes (scheduled for an April release) Patti Smith (just signed a new deal with Columbia; hopefully will have a new record out this year) Guided By Voices (I don't know if they're actually _due_ for a new release, but they seem to have an album out just about every year, so it's a safe bet) R.E.M. Sarah Harmer Radiohead Loveless (Jen Trynin plays guitar in this band; first full length is due out this year) Elliott Smith Yo La Tengo Mark my words, 2003 will be the best year for music since 1998. Gotta put the two cents in and support the Cat Power, Wilco & Kristin Hersch camps for OBVIOUS reasons. Dont Forget JESSE MALIN(already out overseas) and Ryan Adams this year as well. And a great list altogether. - -----Original Message----- From: Jase To: support-system@smoe.org Date: Tue, 21 Jan 2003 22:28:55 -0500 Subject: Re: WHO'S DUE FOR NEW MUSIC THIS YEAR? > SMc wrote: > >Anyways we already know this is going to be a great year musically > because > >Liz's will be out in May. I gotta also chime in and recommend Cindy Alexander's release, SMASH, coming out next wednesday (www.cindyalexander.com). It may not be up everyone's alley, but the songwriting is phenomenal. As well as Susan Werner is supposed to have a new disc this year (www.susanwerner.com). And I have to plug a last year release , It Turned Me On, is still an excellent choice (www.jennifermarks.com). These are UNSOLICITED recommendations, these are not Bug artists. They are my personal picks. ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V6 #15 ***********************************
