Lisa's next album will be called "Lullaby For Liquid Pig" and will be released on March 4th from Effagy Records. The two compilations Stephen was referring to are not 'official' releases. Lisa actually burns these CDs herself by those who request them. The first is "Concentrated", a twenty-one track sampling of Lisa's music. The second is "Rare, Unusual Or Just Bad Songs", whose title basically explains it all (although I don't feel Lisa has a bad song). They are available to order by going to www.lisagermano.com and clicking on the "Want to buy something?" link. I ordered mine a couple of months ago and they've both been on heavy rotation since. It's a great way to gather many of Lisa's hard-to-find tracks. Lisa herself even sent me a cute little note when they arrived. Definitely something I'll cherish. Sometimes. That the Penn-produced tracks will not be featured on the new album? Didn't someone write a few days ago that it was Penn who helped hack up "Take a Look?" It's still no "Whip-smart," and probably not even WCSE, but it may not be the travesty it seemed like on first listen. But then, if the song's not even going to be on the album it's academic anyway. Though I'd never have thought it could happen, Liz Phair has moved into the "listen first, then decide whether or not to buy" category for me. Does that mean I'm not a "true" fan? Yeah, probably, but then I never claimed to be, and, in fact, actually consider being a "fan" (connoting blind/obsessive devotion) a Bad thing. As b/4 Trent (Smith) P.S. to other guy named Trent: Has that W.I.T. album actually been released yet? I've been looking but couldn't find it anywhere. W.I.T. with Chicks on Speed and Peaches was one of my definite concertgoing highlights of 2002. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Dec 2002 19:59:32 +0000 From: "over pavema" Subject: topten velvet underground - the quine tapes 3-cd set (you get >1 hour combined of 3 very different versions of 'sister ray' on this set) sleater-kinney - one beat ('sympathy' is the most impressive, chilling song i heard all year) bryan ferry - frantic (he finally sounds like he's enjoying things again, and puts on such a great live show) evan dando - live at the brattle theatre (see MIA note below, it's criminal that he isn't putting out more records) kasey chambers - barricades / brickwalls (if you don't already know how great kasey chambers is, i doubt you'll take my word for it) ben kweller - sha sha (the kind of natural talent that you have a be in awe of, and hope it's not squandered somehow) mitch friedman - Fred (http://www.mitchfriedman.com, he's a buddy, and he made his own record, with help from XTC and others) tift merritt - bramble rose (i just like people who come out of nowhere and can sing their songs even when they're on live tv and their guitar cord isn't plugged in, so it's like they're doing it a capella, but they just keep on singing because the show must go on) bruce springsteen - the rising (i don't know, i had to include it because it's so impressive, but i don't really listen to it that much) sonic ute - murray street (see comments above, regarding 'the rising'. i admire it more than i love it. ever known people like that?) non-2002 releases that still spent lots of time on my i-pod: gillian welch - time (the revelator) (i missed it last year, but made up for it in 2002; great, great record) galaxie 500 - today (i missed it in, what, 1991? but this may be the cd i listened to more than any others, except for dando's) george harrison - all things must pass reissue pj harvey - stories from the city, stories from the sea (i missed this when it came out, too. but it reminds me of patti smith a little) and next year: r.e.m. and pearl jam are touring, liz will apparently drop a cd into the marketplace, and i would welcome new releases from b. kweller, and u2, and juliana hatfield. MIA (and missed a lot): evan dando. brilliant, but dormant, except for a few club dates in vermont and tampa. 'same thing you thought hard about is the same thing i can live without' and 'stove' from the australian live cd are, along with s-kinney's 'sympathy', my favorite songs this year, period. no other songs cheered me up so much so many times this year. well, except for 'take a look', of course. my new year's resolution? to try to cut down on the sarcasm... o _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: smart spam protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Dec 2002 17:21:41 EST From: RbSayre@aol.com Subject: Re: off topic - Respond comp In a message dated 12/10/02 10:54:27 PM Eastern Standard Time, sgriffes@umich.edu writes: > here is the tracklisting. the tanya donelly song is new...it's also > available on the new 4ad sampler "dr tigers deathless promise" (which also > features "Mercury" by Throwing Muses, which will be on the new album next > year) the Tanya song was also on her "sleepwalk" ep late last year- it's a great song... anyway, this looks like an excellent compilation! - -rick if i abstain from fun & such, i'll probably amount to much; but i shall stay the way i am, because i do not give a damn. -dorothy parker let's face it, kids... rick's homepage oy, with the poodles already! -lorelai gilmore ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Dec 2002 21:29:43 -0800 (PST) From: Amber Subject: Polyphonic Spree, IT, & liz > 6. Well, it's just that I'm in Oklahoma (I hate OU, by the way. I went to OSU for a while so it's like I have to.) Another thing, I graduate in May and will be looking for an IT position as well. You'll have a head start on me though. :( Anyway, I just thought it was strange having career path and musical tastes pretty similar. (oh, and not liking OU...almost forgot about that one.) Oh, on a liz note, does anyone know how to save "take a look" or can you not do that. I was just wondering if it was possible or not. thanks, *amber* Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable.
