[Brett Jones ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 29 Nov 2002 13:55:47 +0100 From: Moe Subject: Joan Jett's letter to RS About the Joan Jett's letter to the editor, there have been some discussions on some mailing lists I am on about whether or not she wrote it, especially as the author talks about "Joan Jett". And here is what is now written on Joan Jett's official web site's main page: >More about the open letter to Rolling Stone >from: Kenny Laguna > >Hi everyone, > >We are sorry for the confusion, but Joan Jett did NOT write the >open letter to Rolling Stone, rather it was written by Maya Price, >a talented performer and writer in New York City, and it was >forwarded to us. > >I loved the content, but we had nothing to do with writing it. > >Thanks for the strong response to it. > >Kind regards and happy thanksgiving, > >Kenny Laguna Not that it makes the letter less interesting and less right on imo. I bought this RS issue as they talked about Sleater-Kinney on the front page but boy was it a mistake! They should have called that issue "Women in pop" but it had seldom to do with rock. I wonder, though, if we know for certain that Joan Jett actually wrote it. The third person tone of it makes me wonder about the authorship--and the general caution I have about writers who speak of themselves in the third person. After the Kurt Vonnegut "speech" a couple years back, I'm always suspicious about such reports. It doesn't really change the truth of what's said, but it does make a difference who wrote it. THANKS for passing it along. derek - ------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 29 Nov 2002 11:36:16 -0500 From: "Michael Honaker" Subject: NEW LIZ SONG! / joan jett's letter I recieved an email from someone last night that contained a link to an mp3 file called "Take A Look", by Liz of course. They said that it's from a few promo cd's issued by Capitol within the past month or so. I haven't gotten all the details yet, but they said it's listed as being "from the forthcoming album" by Liz Phair. So - downloaded the mp3 and uploaded it to the Supernova site. If you all want to download and discuss it - you can get it at: http://suprnova.lunamorena.net/takealook.mp3 (no thats not a blatant plug for the site - the mp3 is really there.) - - by the way - that wasn't the wonderful Miss Jett that wrote the letter. Here is a statement from Joan's site: "We are sorry for the confusion, but Joan Jett did NOT write the open letter to Rolling Stone, rather it was written by Maya Price, a talented performer and writer in New York City, and it was forwarded to us." No idea who Maya Price is, but she sure has some balls. Just for that letter, RS will probably spend all it's time and money stopping her from being heard. Everything in the letter was true though. Amy Ray said things better. Thanks to her, Wenner is perfectly immortalized as an asshole in song. end. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 29 Nov 2002 14:31:04 -0500 From: drpeak@juno.com Subject: Joan Jett Just got this in from a fellow lister: Letter is great, but Joan Jett did NOT write it. check out joanjett.com for the following message from Kenny Laguna, her manager. "Hi everyone, We are sorry for the confusion, but Joan Jett did NOT write the open letter to Rolling Stone, rather it was written by Maya Price, a talented performer and writer in New York City, and it was forwarded to us. I loved the content, but we had nothing to do with writing it. Thanks for the strong response to it. Kind regards and happy thanksgiving, Kenny Laguna" Still a great letter, though! So - downloaded > the mp3 and uploaded it to the Supernova Mike, thanks for the link. cool of you to share it with the list. as for the song, uhhhhhhh........Houston, we have a problem. Judging from the song I think that Liz has been lyrically lobotomized from her work with the matrix and gary clark. I can't decide if this song reminds me of the awful Gary clark-Natalie imbruglia written "Wrong Impression" or the dumbed down drivel of the Matrix Avril penned "Sk8tr Boi". The music is your average paint by numbers, cookie cutter pop-rock arrangement that brings to mind the word "uninspiring". We've waited five years for that? less than impressed.
