Mary J.Blige - fine. okay - and maybe have ONE poppy person like Britney Spears - but COME ON!?! Shakira?? i mean, i don't mind shakira - but could they not find ANYone to represent the rockers? for a women in rock issue - the cover seemed to REALLY lack the "rock" aspect. i also love how they cited bikini kill as a major influence on Nirvana (a band which has been repeatedly named the biggest band of the '90s) yet bikini kill wasn't even a fart in the wind on the 50 essential albums list. figure that one. and Stories from the City in the top 10?? what about DRY or RID OF ME? shit - - even To Bring You My Love!! i adore Stories from the City - but i certainly do not consider to be an essential album - especially when it comes to PJ Harvey. Although great - it is the biggest departure from her PJ Harvey-ish style. i also didn't care much for how they had Cyndi Lauper in the "What Ever Happened To..." section.... like HELLO - she HAS had albums since She's So Unusual - if you ask me i think some of her strongest, original and greatest songs/song writing has been in the last few years. i like sheryl crow but the interview bored the shit out of me. regurgitated shit as usual. "OOOh i was a waitress and my rock star friends told me to go for it - so i did and look at me now!" like - geez. i could go on all day. the mag had it's good points too - love the uncensored pic of the L7 tampon assault. to sum it up though - i think they really went with "What is popular" rather than "What is essential/important/relevent to women in rock". but whatever. dan NP - Anneke's Star - "Frostbitten" ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V5 #213 ************************************
