Fans of the "All Over the Place" sound will be happy - it's a definite spin to their earlier, garage sound...Brad Wood has done a brilliant job - if the rest of the album sounds as good as this one - then it will by far, without question - be my favorite album of 2003. I also found the a pic of the cover on the net (i know there are some fans on here) - it's pretty cool actually...really Un-bangles. still not sure how i feel about it....but if anyone wants to see it: http://home.earthlink.net/~zosma/Bangles/Album%20News.htm that's the link. anyway, sorry to bog the liz list down w/ bangles stuff...but i can never find a good bangles chat list - and i know there are a few fans on here who don't mind my gushing... PS - been listening to Phairities lately....*sigh* the old days... I find it hilarious that the Bangles are gonna beat liz to her next album, and even more ironic that Brad Wood is producing...if only liz would give brad a ring, although we said that last time too, didn't we? walking like an egyptian, dan ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 4 Oct 2002 15:17:58 -0700 From: "dp" Subject: exile follies hey all: just a little synopsis of the wonderful "exile follies" show last nite at the troubadour in LA. oh my god... it was amazing. i can't believe i was actually there. 'cause, yeah, like many, i suppose, when i found out about it, i thought, "no fuckin' way: john doe, kristen hersh, and grant-lee phillips. am i dead? 'cause at this point i really think i am." so, ok, we're there and they have this guy do a few songs as an opener, some guy named howell (sp?--or is it "howl," 'cause with him i can see that). he was quite entertaining. and then, on this one song he did, he got some help on the choruses from this woman who walked up there under the pretense of helping him with his defective CD player (he'd hit the button on the player during the songs to splice in some bob dylan harmonica or some kinda harp flourish here or there; it was funny). so she's singin' and i turn to my friend and go "oh my god, is that PJ harvey?" and--holy shit--it was. we were like, "ok, how fuckin' cool is *this*??" so then grant came out and was awesome on his twelve-string... (he's got really gorgeous hands, by the way). ha ha: he goes, "ok, since this is the last day of the tour, we're gonna kinda tone it down a bit: [i forgot what he said about himself]... and kristen's gonna limit her wig changes to maybe two or three, and john, well, he's not gonna do that thing with the chaps, you know, where he flies out over the crowd...?" funny. so he does his set and then john joined him fer a couple grant-lee songs and then john does his set and then kristen comes out to do some duet stuff, including "white girl" from the X days. (i was hoping they'd do more X, really.) and then kristen does her solo stuff and then grant joins her for some throwing muses. and then they're all out there for "see how we are" and "when the levee breaks." cool, cool, cool. and, yeah, there we all were, with our smallish glasses and waxed hair, the hipster arto-intellectuals or whatever.... dig it. i really wanted to talk to grant, but they hang out in their skybox 'til everyone leaves, i guess. oh yeah--and then i guess spike jonze (sofia was up there too) was on the mixing desk. and my friend and i each thought we saw tanya donnelly and adam from the beastie boys. or are we making that up? all in all a very satifying evening. oh yeah, and the music was good too. (har!) they were all truly superb. alrighty, back to you, stan, dp ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 04 Oct 2002 18:47:28 -0500 From: John-Paul Finger Subject: Cherish on DVD and VHS I'm not sure if this has been said yet, but I'll come out of lurking a bit to bring some quasi-good news, depending on whether or not you like Liz's foray into movies. According to the Cherish website, the movie will be out on DVD on December 10. http://www.cherishthemovie.com/theaters.html Liz on a digital plastic disc before the end of 2002... I know its a reach, but I'll take what I can get. Its just too bad its not audio. John-Paul Austin, TX ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 4 Oct 2002 20:03:02 -0700 (PDT) From: Brett Carter Subject: new album you know what i just thought? liz released one of the best and most important albums of all time, so she can do whatever the hell she wants. if she wants to work with the matrix, she should. if she wants to work with pete yawn (don't remember who called him that, but i've taken to calling him that since), she should. even michael penn. i don't know if his production work on her will be good (i personally liked 'wise up'), but if she has faith in him, she should work with him. let's put some faith back in 'the liz.' brett ===== At this point, the length of this conversation is way out of proportion with my interest in it.
