I have the All Over Me soundtrack >with I Wanna Be Your Joey Ramone on it. my recommendation would be for "Call the Doctor." however, the one that i think is the easiest listen would have to be "All Hands on the Bad One", but i enjoy CTD just because i like the call and response-type vocals and guitars - and this album seems to have the most of it... just my vote.. :) also - wasn't the name Sleater-Kinney from two streets or something? Sleater street met Kinney street? i don't know..that's what i heard a long time ago and i never really looked into how much merit it had - i just accepted it. hahaha.. laters, dan ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Aug 2002 12:46:06 -0400 From: Dnce7Veils@aol.com Subject: sleater-kinney (off-liz) > If I were to buy one Sleater-Kinney album, which would > you guys recommend? I have the All Over Me soundtrack the new album rocks it pretty farking hard! my personal favorite of the harder, rawer, more potent stuff is "call the doctor," which has "joey ramone" on it. of the newer stuff, "the hot rock" or the new one. sleater-kinney is the name of the road in washington that their practice space was on; i've passed the exit. there are in fact big stylistic differences between their albums.....so get them all!! thery're definitely one of the best bands i've ever seen (which is a whole whole lot), and you should definitely check em out on this tour. toodles *jed ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Aug 2002 13:24:56 -0400 From: Athiena00@aol.com Subject: sleater-kinney the album that i bought when i got into them was "the hot rock".....i believe thats thier third. Call the doctor was thier second? i am usually one that will buy a bands first record, cause those are the best ones. the artists are the freshes ...and most uninfluenced. i am going to see them when they come to athens in october. i have missed them on the last two tours and it aint going to happen this time! all hands on the bad one athiena ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Aug 2002 12:44:31 -0500 From: "Brooke, Robert" Subject: S-K ONE BEAT Since we are talking so such about Sleater-Kinney, the new CD is great. They weren't as poppy sounding as All Hands On the Bad One. Now is it just me or did they screw up the order of the songs? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Aug 2002 11:23:19 -0700 (PDT) From: Al Madrid Subject: Re: Aberdeen Anyone on this list ever hear of them? I just bought their album after listening to it on a listening station and I am hooked. It's sweet and somewhat mellow pop and they remind me of a cross between Velocity Girl and the Spinanes. As I was listening to it last night, some of the guitar playing kind of reminded me of some of the girlysounds songs. I guess just the innocence of them anyway. Check Aberdeen out, I say. Al Yahoo! I would recommend their last album "all hands on the bad one" as a starting point. Joey Ramone is on "call the doctor" which is probably my fave. a bit more punkier than their current sound. "hot rock"' is probably their best work musically, but not a good starting point. "dig me out" is good for parties :) I still haven't clicked with one beat...haven't gotten to listen too much because it's in storage with most of my other cds. i am seeing them in chicago too. if you go to www.killrockstars.com you can vote on what pre one-beat songs you wanna hear on the fall tour! how fun is that. the band's name is a street by where they used to practice or something like that, i dont recall exactly. mmmm i got the new dixie chicks today...it's fabulous. there's two patty griffin covers (one of my favorite songwriters) and a gorgeous take on 'landslide' by fleetwood mac. it's just wonderful. as for all the bitching, I think it's weird when fans expect material from artists. Do people bitch like we do when there isn't a new Toni Morrison novel for a couple years? i mean, yeah, liz is a musician. we love her music. we buy it. some people might even say we helped her get to where she is. however, she did not sign a contract with her fans saying "I will put out a cd every other year just to satisfy YOU regardless of whether or not it works for me" people act like she's not putting out music just to spite her fans. we don't own her and we dont know what goes on in her life and career. so go get a subscription to a magazine or start buying beany babies or something... steve. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Aug 2002 22:19:42 -0400 From: Brett Jones Subject: Re: sleater stuff/bitchin about liz Stephen Griffes wrote: > we don't own her and we dont know what goes on in her life and career. > mmmmmm.... to own Liz Phair. - -- Brett Jones brett@5foot2.com ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V5 #167 ************************************
