[Stephen Griffes ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Tue, 13 Aug 2002 17:45:07 -0400 From: Mark Henninger Subject: new old Liz news In consulting with Ken Lee this week I realized that some Liz news, or at least quotes, never made it to the Support System this summer. The June/July issue of Magnet magazine (the legendary Jeff Tweedy on the cover) was on shelves back in May--I remember reading it over Memorial Day weekend. So this isn't exactly a news flash, but here goes... There is an article in the mag about Pete Yorn, how wonderful Pete Yorn is, blah, blah, blah. The point here is that Liz was interviewed for the article (as was Brad Wood, who co-produced musicforthemorningafter). The Liz part of the article goes like this: "Liz Phair is also a fan, so much so that she asked Yorn to help with her upcoming An Evening With, scheduled for late summer. 'I felt like he voiced the male persona I would most like to Scotch tape over my current boyfriend,' she says. Though Yorn's role isn't as extensive as has been reported--he played on some tracks Phair cut with Vincent but isn't producing the record (Michael Penn is)--Phair enlisted him to serve as 'an inspiration and a challenge because he's sort of a songwriter whose style is like my own. He was just starting out with all this fire. I felt competitive, and it made me want to kick some ass.'" So there you go. Liz wants to kick some ass. And she has (or had) a boyfriend. I wonder if he likes the tan. Having fulfilled my posting quota for the year I return to lurking. ~Mark ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 14 Aug 2002 02:19:51 +0000 From: "over pavema" Subject: liz in s-k interview http://www.killrockstars.com/bands/sleater-kinney/interview/index.html you have to scour it a bit, but the reference to liz is there. almost (but not at all) gives one hope that one day s-k might tour with l-p. would that be a show, or what? oil and water, i know, but it would still be a blast. other acts we'd like to see liz tour with? so great that the vinyl version of the new s-k lp is only $9, with an additional ep to boot. o _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 13 Aug 2002 23:48:25 -0400 (EDT) From: Stephen Griffes Subject: chicago help? hi lizters, I'm going to chicago this weekend and i've never been so i thought i'd ask for suggestions here. i'll arrive friday evening, anyone know of any fun queer clubs (meaning: not gayboy-dominated) that play decent music (meaning: not technopopshit)? or other fun nightlife? i should have all day saturday to do stuff. any advice? im seeing dolly parton at the house of blues sat night (the reason for my trip!) :) oh, go here for a really fun sleater-kinney interview where corin quotes a liz song! http://www.killrockstars.com/bands/sleater-kinney/interview/ i knew i could make this more liz-oriented then just the chicago-tie. steve. ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V5 #151 ************************************
