Of course, my favorite parts are mention of the "new album" and Robin singing back-up "at a live show"... hmmmmm LIVE Liz... *drool* :) :) :) miss you sup systers KB ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Robin Tunney is at her best when facing a test June 12, 2002 She does not cherish her early days as a waitress in Chicago. Robin Tunney, star of "Cherish" (opening Friday at the Music Box), used to sling plates at Ann Sather. "I stunk as a waitress," says the actress. "I'd arrive for my daily shift and it was like, 'Watch your toes! How many glasses will she break?' " In "Cherish," Tunney's simply breaking the rules as a lonely '80s rock fan who's falsely accused of murder and gets sentenced to house arrest. Then she falls in love with her parole officer (Tim Blake Nelson) while evading a stalker at the same time. It's a daring role for Tunney ("Vertical Limit," "End of Days"), who says she likes a challenge. GLARE asked the Palos Heights native about the ways in which she's a risk taker. SHE WAS A REBELLIOUS KID. "Oh, my God, I spent all my time sneaking into the city. Finally I stopped lying to my mom because no one goes to the library that much. My weekend as a teen was meeting at a Dunkin' Donuts parking lot and then go dance to New Order at Medusa's." SHE DISHES UP EMBARRASSING OLD STORIES. "I got my start in Chicago posing for the training bra boxes for Sears. They paid me $800 a box. I felt like Rockefeller. But then the thing came out when I was a freshman in high school and it felt like posing for Penthouse to me. And then some senior at my Catholic school posted the boxes all over school. I was mortified." SHE DEFIES CONVENTIONAL HOLLYWOOD PROTOCOL. In fact, Tunney begged to be in "Cherish." "I cried, 'Look, I'll work so hard. I'll bring wigs from other movies. I'll live in a crappy place. I don't need a trailer. None of the other girls can do this.' I almost said, 'I'll do it for free.' " *** SHE CHALLENGES HER FRIENDS. Tunney is good pals with Chicago rocker Liz Phair, who also has a role in the movie thanks to ... R.T. "The first time I met Liz she was doing music for one of my husband's films. I was so nervous, I changed my clothes three times. Now we're girlfriends. I called her about this movie and said, 'Read this script. There's a small role for you.' " *** SHE LETS HER FRIENDS CHALLENGE HER BACK."I'm posing for the cover of Liz's new album. I can't tell you the theme. She also says I can sing backup at a live show, but she's never heard me sing. It might be a Milli Vanilli situation." SHE'S NOT AFRAID OF SCARY GUYS. For her upcoming movie "The Secret Lives of Dentists," she plays a hygienist. "I get to work on Denis Leary and the first scene that little sucky device, well, I got it caught on his cheek and it gave him a cheek hickey. I thought he'd kill me, but he was a very nice man. No plaque on him, either." SHE DIGS ADVENTURE TRAVEL. "A few months ago, I went diving with sharks. All the men on the boat were scared to jump into the water. I stood up, put my gear on and sang at the top of my lungs, 'I am strong. I am invincible. I am woman!' Then I jumped in, petrified. But the sharks just swam right up to me and turned away. They were docile." SHE DOESN'T LEAVE WELL ENOUGH ALONE. The sharks were docile compared to the hyenas on her camping trip in Africa. "Hyenas have the largest jaws you've ever seen, and they're the only animals who can digest bones. One night, a brown spotted hyena entered our camp and our safari guide was even horrified. I was shaking, but the thing just walked away." Maybe he heard that Tunney was lethal with the glasswear.
