I dug it so much that shortly after buying it, I sent an email to the list tellin ya'll so. Her music? Well, I can't even begin to think of who she reminds me of because she doesn't remind me of anyone. What I do have to say is that the whole album is full of beautifully crafted, sweet songs. It is very mellow and you won't find any rocking songs on this album. I highly recommend it. Go buy this album now! :) Anyway, as for Ms. Mckee. Oh my, she is and has been one of my favorite artists since her LJ days and I've followed her all the way up to her last album "Life is Sweet". Liz and Maria are totally different in their music, but if you are willing to invest in one of Maria's albums I would suggest you start with "Life is Sweet" and work your way back from there if you end up liking it. It's a great album and, though I do not despise Alanis like some on this list (though I am far from being a huge fan), the comparison to her probably only comes from the way she sings some of the songs on LIS. The music on LIS is waaaaaaaay better than anything that Alanis has wrote in my opinion. As for Ms. Mckee's voice, I totally agree, it's one of a kind and she is so versatile with it. She can belt out a rock-blues-type song just as well, or even better than Joplin, take it down to a smooth soul sounding voice, on LIS she even does a few songs that shows that if she wanted, she could do musicals on Broadway and blow the audience away. Her brother was in the 60s psychadelic band "Love" who's song "Alone Again or" was covered by the Damned and played quite a bit on commericial radio back in the late 80s. Anyway, check out MMs stuff, if even to get a whiff of the incredible singing voice she has. I don't know of another singer who's voice is as versatile and awesome as MMs. Al Yahoo! - Official partner of 2002 FIFA World Cup http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 07 Jun 2002 01:57:43 +0000 From: Henry Subject: Re: is liz phair dead? has liz done anything noteworhty lately? what a tragedy that a talent like her chooses to be so quiet!!!!!!! anyone? i'd be happy to hear your comments... ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Jun 2002 20:08:27 -0700 (PDT) From: SHERLY McLACHLAN Subject: RE; IS LIZ PHAIR DEAD WOW, That scared the krap out of me fo a second. You shouldn't even joke like that. I'm still awaiting the long lost album. I think she's to bizzy playing in hollywood. She's lost focus of her music or she just don't care, but your right it is tragic.
