Can we PLEASE just talk about Liz-related matters and keep the "i >hate this" and "i hate that" emails off the general list. If this is going to turn into a "i hate..." discussion list then I'd like to submit my list with dan's emails at the the top I guess you must be new on here. The reason I say that is because this list, while definately Liz driven, has *always* been open enough to allow people to talk about their viewpoint on various musical topics that somehow tie in (for the most part) to Liz. Oft times we may stray into politics, fashion or whatnont and for the most part the thread either evolves into something new or dies. For you to try to moderate this list...guess what? That's Jases' job. DarkSide oftheMoon "I didn't think it was possible, but this both sucks and blows." Hi list... Sorry... I'm the author of the "what about POE ???" message on this list, which is responsible of all those pixels in your mail-boxes... Hope you enjoyed them... But then... what's the need of comparing our favourite artists, to rank them... We know who we like, which CDs or songs we like from them... Is there a need of saying which comes first and so... knowing that this is not eternal and may change within the next few months... I like Tori, I like P(*)E, I like Liz, so do I like Garbage, Kate Bush, Radiohead, Addict, Tracy Bonham... All of them are parts of my universe... pieces of my puzzle... and when I have them all, then I have myself... I need them all, sometimes I need one of them more than the others, sometimes it changes, and it's another one... I like associating "winter" by Tori Amos, with "The Fog" by Kate Bush. I like associating "Sometimes I hear my voice and it's been here, silent all these yeras", by Tori, and "I can hear myself, I'm somewhere in there" by P(*)E... Why should anyone of those artists/band exclude the others ??? Anyway... I like P(*)E... l like "Hello" (I LOVE some of the songs, and like the others), I LOVE most of her non- album songs, and I LOVE "Haunted"... (want to know more: well, I liked "hello", but not that much... I really discovered P(*)E while downloading her unreleased, live or non-album tracks... Then fell in love while listening to "Haunted")... "Haunted" is a labyrinth where I like to lose myself !!! I sometimes compare it to "The Wall" by Pink Floyd... Haunted is the story of a growth, of a door between two ages of an individual... I'd like to have the words to express what I feel... The process of turning from being- the-dad's-little-child, to being-a-full-grown-individual... whis its own behaviour, opinions, feelings, without denying the parent's influence... Ok... I've been mainly listening to this CD for months, until Tori's CD came out... Garbage's CD did not have the same effect, and I don't believe that Liz's Cd would have had the same effect... but that doesn't mean Liz or Garbage are not as good as Tori or P(*)E... They were not what I was looking for at that time... Concerning Liz, anyway : I would say that she is the one who's driven me back to rock music... Back in 1995, i believe... I was mainly listening to jazz music, and Tori was the most "rockish" thing that you could find within my records... Then I listened to the "Higher Learning" soundtrack, because of Tori's songs there, and fell in love with Liz's music, as well as with Eve's Plum... Bought their CDs and still like/love them... Then I came back to Rock music, and opened to other bands... I listen to Liz when I feel myself so sad, about to cry, and don't want to... I would not say that there is no sensitivity in Liz's music, but you will not burst into tears while listening to her songs, though this is possible with Garbage, Tori, P(*)E... But it sometimes-really-often, directly talks to your heart, anyway... C.U. (this is not meant to piss you off, michael h., as you've come to *my* defense before. duly noted.) it cracked me up. christ, it's just an opinion. she backed it up with further analysis that dan elaborated on and i agree with. so that's at least three people right there who share that opinion. whatever. and for the billionth time, how much can we discuss every aspect of liz and her personal habits and whatever else? of course, you have your *own* opinions, ok, fine, but now you're hunting people down and that sucks. and just out of curiousity, what exactly is your definition of "elitism"? 'cause it seems to me you haven't a clue.... let's get *really* off-topic, shall we? dp ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 04 May 2002 10:30:29 -0400 From: Dan MacDonald Subject: liz-related matters trent wrote: >Can we PLEASE just talk about Liz-related matters and keep the "i hate >this" and "i hate that" emails off the general list. Sounds like a Pulitzer idea for a Liz list!!! The trick is...finding some current "Liz-related matters". Anyone else see Cherish yet? Poe on the other hand is like that > girl that sits at the freaks table in high school but secretly shops at > the GAP. its pathetic. Well...most of those kids shop at Hot Topic, which is really just The Gap with less colors to choose from. Anyways, i really don't know what you're talking about. I'm a pretty big poe fan and I've never heard her identify as a "freak" and have never thought of her as a freak. so even if your comment made sense, would it make Liz "the girl who used to sit with the indie kids but now does Gap ads"? no, it wouldn't. see, it's silly. you don't like poe. that's fine, of course. However you don't know her, so you don't know if she's being true to herself or not. and if you say silly things that are bound to get people ticked--and only back them up with analogies that don't compute--then they will be pointed out by fellow lizsters. hey it's a Phair holiday! happy cinco de mayo :) Steve.
