The way I interpreted is that she's met this amazing guy who's unlike anyone else she has ever met and he gets her to go around with him experiencing things she's never experienced before and the force of her emotions for him is what "knocked me down, started dragging me around in the back of his convertible car." Just my humble opinion. Anyways, several things: 1. I don't know if I count as one of the "old" ones or not. The oldest mail I've got is SSD #3 from 11 September 1998; I sent mail to Jase on 5 September 1998 asking to subscribe to his manual list. Wow, that's a long time ago... 2. On Sheryl Crow: I miss the woman who made "Sheryl Crow". Can we have her back now? Despite having been a fan of hers since 1995, she's long since stopped being my favorite. In 1996 and 1997, her second album got more play than every other album I owned combined. Likewise for "Tuesday Night Music Club" back in 1995 and early 1996. Hell, even "The Globe Sessions" got a lot of play from me, fighting against some new artist in the lineup, a girl named Liz Phair. Her latest album got _one_ listen from me. I doubt it'll get another. If I want Lenny Kravitz, I'll buy a Lenny Kravitz album, thank you. That being said, I fully agree with the judgment of others on Miss Crow. I just don't care who she's hanging out with, it's unimportant. Kid Rock? Come on. Lenny "I write a shitty single every few years" Kravitz? Come on. Don Henley? Good grief. Gwyneth Paltrow? The apocalypse is near. C'mon, c'mon? No! GO AWAY! I hate this album. "Soak Up the Sun" is so damned banal that it's hard to listen, even for Liz Phair. Ugh. Message to Sheryl Crow: The 1970s are over. This is a good thing. You're _not_ J.Ho; stop wearing the strange sunglasses and dressing in an attempt to follow along. 3. Speaking of Liz, there's something vaguely strange about the photos of her from Leno. Maybe it's just me, but I kinda looked at her and said, "What happened to the Liz Phair I knew and loved? That's not her..." It probably sounded (or would have sounded, had anyone been around) like a lost kid. Maybe it was Rob's TV, but the two of them didn't look uh, normal. I want another album. Even if were just digitally remastered Girlysound material. Wait, given where Miz Phair might go with 2002 material, digital remasters would be a _perfect_ album to get. I miss the "stoner whimsy" that could produce "California" and "South Dakota", and lead her to describe as a 'Star Trek crewman', with Beatle boots and a Super-8. Or my personal favorite, any song with an M-16 or an F-16. The Juvenilia Liz Phair could have fit on "Beavis and Butt-head", MTV's only worthy show save "House of Style with Cindy Crawford" or Peter Chung's "Aeon Flux".[1] I miss Liz. I want to spend money on that brand, damnit. I want to write at the bottom of a check, "For: Liz Phair's new album". The same sunny feeling you get from hearing about the sky above her in "What Makes You Happy". That's a fantastic song. Enough from me for another long stretch. Michael [1] OK. That just dated me horribly... In the e-mail he wrote, "Funny how you're coming just as I'm going," but I didn't get any further details on *why* he was going. >I hope he's doing well. Didn't he move to Pittsburgh a while ago? That was the talk, anyway. I hope he's so busy living the fabulous and fast-paced big city lifestyle that he just doesn't have a moment to spare for more minor pursuits, like, um, mailing lists. But it would be nice to know where's he's gone. Can I just be completely non sequitous and say that I just saw a Tennessee state quarter for the first time and I think it's fabulous?
