I certainly have more music to listen to and go see live, books to read, DVDs to watch, movies to see than I have time for. And it is true that she was studying art at Oberlin. A friend of mine who was at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago said he gave her one of her first gigs more because he liked her art than because of her music. She doesn't owe us anything except to do her music at her own pace. Records always get pushed back (though usually not this many times). As far as the music industry, there is a new documentary on Wilco that deals a lot with the changes in the music industry. It will be released theatrically starting in August. http://www.wilcofilm.com - ----------------------------- Steve Rhodes http://www.well.com/~srhodes contributor to http://www.tvbarn.com http://www.tvbarn.com/docs/- Docs on TV - -- http://fastmail.fm/ - A fast, anti-spam email service. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Apr 2002 05:57:47 -0400 From: Meredith Robbins Subject: Re: people who were in gradeschool The redoubtable Dan MacDonald wrote: > I joined this list WAAAAY back in the very beginning - the first year >Jase started it - and I was in college. >I'm still in college. There is nothing new under the sun. I was an insufferable brat then, and I'm an insufferable brat now. I joined the list literally when it first started, like, the same day... I think I was maybe the fifth subscriber or something. What year was that, Jason? Is there anybody else left from the very beginning? I must have been in... the ninth grade? And I was around on the late lamented (?) Guyville list for a while before that (hence being able to join the new list immediately). So, yeah, it's been a while. I'm finishing up my junior year in college now, and I miss being the list baby! I remember Steve Kisko[1] writing some paean to me on the list a few years ago, and he said something like, "Although you would be shocked to learn how old Meredith is..." Misty watercolor memories... Anyways, do you know what you people have done to me? I *dreamed* about Liz Phair last night. I don't think I've ever done that before, even when I was working eight hours a day on the website (as opposed to now when I work... zero hours a day on the website). Craziness. Meredith 1. THAT'S why everything's taking so long. i know, probably not a chance in hell that this is happening, but it's a different idea for something to talk about here. some other completely impossible speculation, a red herring of sorts: she's secretly dating a young man in the Detroit, MI area, and i'm keeping her away from all of you (cue sinister laugh). i've heard the album and it's wonderful... anyway, any other speculation out there, based in reality or otherwise? chris deLisle ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 Apr 2002 20:14:28 -0400 From: "DarkSide oftheMoon" Subject: non-liz / in remeberance of layne I don't recall seeing anything on here about the great loss of Alice in Chains frontman Layne Staley. Even tho Liz and Alice in Chains are worlds apart, I feel the need to honor his memory on this list. Godsmack put it quite well: " It wasn't as shocking as it normally would've been, maybe if it had happened five or 10 years ago, ... but it was pretty upsetting to me. It's just finalizing it. It's the actual reality of when you put on Alice in Chains, you go, 'Wow, this dude is dead. He's no longer with us.' It's pretty spooky." I hope you found peace at last Layne, you will be missed..
