Dan, are you a single dad? The way I see it, Liz has 2 choices when it comes to raising her son: (1) be an actual mother to him, or (2) pay someone to raise him for her while she persues a break-neck career. Given the long absence and the sporadic work, that we know of anyway, I am willing to give her the benefit of the doubt and choose to believe that she may be dedicated to family over career at this juncture in life. If she is doing this, I applaude her. Who are we to call her lazy because she hasn't released a new cd in so long? What about the stuff we don't know about? Sorry for the rant, but this topic really hit a nerve with me. Darren PS - This is not meant to be a slam against those working parents with a nanny. This is a tough topic with no clear solution. >Date: Sat, 13 Apr 2002 16:27:39 -0400 >From: "Daaaaan Theman" >Subject: in defense of myself > >i love liz to death, but she is still lazy as hell. in only 2 years I >have gone to college, worked full time, written and recorded 40+ songs, >played countless shows in the NYC area, shopped around a demo, need i go >on? Why do we as fans just automatically >expect someone to slap something together - just to please us? you're misinterpreting; my point is that (1) she's not the only one to go through emotionally difficult times (which you yourself reiterated) and (2) she *has* done stuff--commercials, small acting gigs, and modeling. and i'm not saying she needs to get her butt moving for *my* benefit. that's pretty preposterous.... i was addressing the person who implied the rest of us are lazy and haven't really "done anything." like, deal with "media pressure," i'm assuming.... whatever. plus, i'm sorry, i can think of tons of other artists who work really hard, not because they're "doing it for the fans, blah, blah, blah," but because, ok, they're under contractual pressures, which is where the "realness" comes in, and they actually want to be good at what they do. they understand what they've chosen for themselves. *that's* what i'm talking about. --- dp ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 14 Apr 2002 22:27:58 -0400 From: Dan MacDonald Subject: julie johnson soundtrack I know it was said on here before - what label is the Julie Johnson soundtrack going to be on again? I know it's a really indie label - but isn't it like, a branch off Universal? or am I wrong and way off? It's bugging me now. Also - this is waaay off topic and I apologize - but the liz listers are usually a helpful bunch so I might as well try. I am writing a feature story right now on hip-hop lingo and if ANYONE can refer me to any kind of insight on where the whole "shizel my nizel" stuff came from and originated - - I'd be forever in yer debt. YOu know what I mean right? Like - for example "We're gonna chill at my hizel fo shizel" - that kinda thing. Meaning "we're gonna chill at my house for sure.." or something.. I know it's a big MTV thing and anyone who is anyone (except - um - me) use this terminology(?) - I'm dying to know what it means, why it is there and what it is all about, who started it etc. Anyone know anything? sorry to bog the list down with this - ignore me - but if anyone happens to know - email me...in private - not on the list. thanks in advance.. dan ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V5 #72 ***********************************
