I hate to say it, but at least from that picture she sure has aged in her past four years of laziness. On the other hand, The Gap ads were probably more recent than that photo (her hair was longer, and blonder), and so was the "Down" video. What does this all mean you ask? Bad lighting! She plays the boss of Robin Tunney(who is only five years younger), so there probably took measures with make-up and what not to make Liz look a bit older in order to carry off the role more believeably. She looked a little older but still fine in the Down video and the little intro she did for it. Sometimes I think a celebrity's best friend or worst enemy can be their make- up artist. On another note, anyone else get that feeling that Liz will be one of those people that will grow old and never go beyond a size 2 dress? BTW Liz's B-day is coming up April 17. She will be 35. robert ===== - ------------------------------------------------------------ Nashville - A Liz Phair Web Site http://www.geocities.com/robnashville - ------------------------------------------------------------ Yahoo! In the past four years, Ms. Phair has produced and painstakingly re-recorded forty-plus tracks for her new album, appeared in several commercials, co-starred in a feature-length film, written and produced a soundtrack for another feature-length film, appeared live in concert at more than one benefit concert, and modeled for a line of clothing. Well, I know quite a few people who have completed degrees in the last four years, or have made great advances professionally, have gotten married and started families... Let's break Liz's activities down a little further: First of all, as for the commercials, I can only recall two: one for Apple, which only took one day to shoot, and the one for the Gap, which probably didn't take much longer. Liz does appear in a feature-length film, but judging from the reviews I've read, I wouldn't exactly say she co-starred. She did have a few scenes, but not that terribly many. And from the reports made to the list at the time, it sounded like her scenes only took a few days to shoot. Benefits and one-offs aren't all that time consuming either, unless you do, say, a hundred of them. Liz hasn't. Your comment about the Julie Johnson soundtrack makes it sound like she painstakenly wrote and recorded an album's worth of songs for the film, when in reality only four of her songs appear in the film, and one is from her last album. Besides, those new songs may very well be among the 40 or so she originally recorded for the new record. Modelling isn't all that time intensive either; it's not like she's a supermodel or something and making a career of it. She's done a little bit here, a little bit there ... but it still doesn't add up to all that much work. As for the amount of time she's spent writing and recording all those songs... Well, keep in mind that the bulk of _Whip-Smart_ was recorded during a four-day stint in the Bahamas. Even her masterwork, _Exile in Guyville_, didn't take nearly this much time to produce either. And hell, for comparison, Sleater-Kinney have released two albums (_The Hot Rock_ and _All Hands on the Bad One_) and have written their new one since Liz last made an appearance on record. And I'm sure their new album will be out before Liz releases hers. I love Liz's work, I really do. She's phenomenally talented and I still consider myself a huge fan of her music. But let's face it, she's just not that prolific and she doesn't seem all that motivated either. I don't want to be too critical, but while I am a fan, I'm not going to be an apologist. She needs to be more Guided By Voices and less My Bloody Valentine. Cheers, Jase ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V5 #69 ***********************************
