so i bought the new alanis and lisa records on fev 26th. it is wierd, cus i 
am usually really into alanis, but this recrod didnt really psyche me that 
much... i liked the single and all... i dont know, i just figured she wrote 
it to regain all the jagged little pill fans she lost with supposed former 
infatuation junkie. i personally really liked SFIJ, and wished she could have 
made another introspective recrod like that. i respect her producer status 
and all. it just seems so pop-oriented, nothing new. the same old style. but 
still, it is alanis, and the album is definitely growing on me. 

i guess i was happier with lisa's "cake and pie", though, whcih is odd 
because i was more excited to buy alanis's album. it is just such a breath of 
fresh air, lisa really is awesome. the songs are simple, yet great great 
great. "the way it really is", "bring me up", "everyday", "she's falling 
apart"... pretty much all of the songs are breathtaking. its definitely 
lisa's best, and one of the best albums ive heard in a long time. the world 
needs more lisa right about now... i was just watching reality bytes last 
nigh... those were the days. 

it just kind of sucks that her label is supporting it at all. i dont think 
many people even know she released a new album. the single "someone you 
should know" (again, another great song) isnt getting any airplay either on 
radio or mtv. its obvious that the public loves her - anyone remember how 
popular she was in '97 with "i do"? i have to admit that album was a little 
too poppy for me, but still. she has such potential. this record proves that.

Yes, I'm really enjoying listening to URS. Her writing and performing on 
this CD feels a lot less "forced" than on SFIJ. I like Eastern philosophy a 
lot myself and understand Alanis's desire to put her Eastern experiences 
into her music, but somehow SFIJ just didn't work all that well for me. 
Under the Rug Swept is saturated by Alanis's distinctive style, but the 
sound seems more rounded, better crafted to me.

well since everyone else is rambling about sheryl, i'll ramble about
Alanis and her new cd.

You can't not love it.   it has the best lyrics of any album ever (except
for Supposed Former Infatuation junkie, OF COURSE).

examples:

"These are 21 things that I want in a lover
 Not necessarily needs but qualities that I prefer
 I figure I can describe it since I have a choice in the matter
 These are 21 things I choose to choose in a lover"

and

"We best keep this to ourselves and not tell any members of our inner
posse"

and

"dear momma's boy, i know you've had your butt licked by your mother"

wonderful mental image, that one there.

you can't not love her.  there's a shitload of bsides already, and they
are much more rockin than the trax on the cd and have fun lyrics also...
