I think they were referring to Sheryl Crow, not Liz, as the subject of the message was "s.crow." If Liz were to participate in something that grand scale, I'm sure we would have heard something about it on the list beforehand. Someone would have found out about it and posted the news. Now, if only someone would come forward with some word on what the status of the new record is. It's almost February and there's still no release date in sight... At this point, I'd be happy if she dyes her hair bright yellow and puts out a pop album - at least it'd be something. But this feels like 1997 again....you know we're all going to get her new album and most likely love it - if the songs are anything like "Down", we have nothing to worry about at all..and she's pretty much working with decent people... Okay - did someone say that she was working with Bob Rock? I forget... dan. PS - aside from Lost Somewhere Between the Earth and My Home, what is the best Geraldine FIbbers album? ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Jan 2002 12:50:29 -0500 From: Dan MacDonald Subject: sorry to double post - but!! Does anyone know the specifics of Liz's contract with Capitol Records - ie - - how long it is, how many albums are proposed..etc etc... I just figured in light of Courtney Love being granted permission to pursue her lawsuit against Geffen and all that - it got me wonderin how much work Liz is going to have to put out to meet her contract... at any rate, Dan. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 30 Jan 2002 14:17:37 -0800 (PST) From: robert joyner Subject: Re: sorry to double post - but!! After Exile in Guyville, Liz signed a five album deal with Matador/Atlantic (Atlantic was distributing Matador at the time). I assume she is still under this original deal since shifting from Matador to Capitol, unless she renegotiated for changing labels. If you count just albums this album would be her third, the other two being Whipsmart and The Egg. not sure if they count the Juvenilia ep against the contract. As unfair as the record industry is, I think if artists like Miss Love, Don Henley, etc. get their way it would be detrimental to artists like Liz. the current structure allows the record company to subsidize artists like Liz. Take whitechocolatespaceegg for example. I would guess that Capitol went into the hole putting that record out. The album had three different producers (and producer fees and points on the album), they brought in tom lord-alge to mix (another fee), hundreds of hours spent on studio time (pricy), plus money spent for marketing and tour promotion. All for an album that has yet to reach gold status four years later. They have to make money off the high selling artists so that albums like WCSE don't put the company under. I'm not saying that WCSE would do that by itself but for every successful album you are gonna have 5 or 6 money losers, maybe more. Just my opinion. later robert - --- Dan MacDonald wrote: > Does anyone know the specifics of Liz's contract > with Capitol Records - ie > - how long it is, how many albums are proposed..etc > etc...
