I haven't posted in a very long time. Most of it is due to the fact I feel I have nothing to contribute that hasn't already been said. But oh well, eavesdropping works for me. I do find it amazing that despite a lack in music from Liz, that this list stays strong. Anyway, I did want to participate in the annual 'Best Of The Year' list, so to those of you who take interest in this type of thing: My top 10 discs of 2001 01. RUBY -- Short-staffed At The Gene Pool 02. JUDE -- King Of Yesterday 03. HEATHER NOVA -- South 04. GARBAGE -- beautifulgarbage 05. KRISTIN HERSH -- Sunny Border Blue 06. SAM PHILLIPS -- Fan Dance 07. FAITHLESS -- Outrospective 08. SUZANNE VEGA -- Songs In Red And Gray 09. JILL SOBULE -- I Never Learned To Swim* 10. PETE YORN -- Music For The Morning After * I know it was sort of a 'greatest hits' for Jill, but I feel she's such a wonderful and under-appreciated artist. She deserves the praise (and the exposure). I'm also anticipating No Doubt's "Rock Steady" which is due out on Dec. 12 in the US. For next year, I'm greatly anticipating work from the following: LIZ PHAIR AIMEE MANN ANI DIFRANCO ANNIE LENNOX (No, seriously. I heard it was true... a new album in 2002!) DIDO Okay, that's all from me. Unless I post again, I hope everyone has a great holiday. This is getting out of hand. My post was not meant to start a holy war over the rights or wrongs of homosexuality, or whether it is a choice or something you're born with, or... not to mention it's way off topic. It's not even music related. I merely made my own comment in line with a thread on this list, and added my personal belief on the subject - the same as the rest of you have been so free to do without being attacked and called names. I'm not going to apologize to those individuals who missed the point and took my comments personally, and I'm not going to discuss or respond to any individual comments on this topic on this list. If your feelings have been hurt, and you feel the need to lash out, please do it off list. I'll be happy to respond there. Maybe. And now, back to the subject at hand: As far as artists keeping their mouth shut, I'm talking about artists like Eddie Vedder promoting Ralph Nader, or Barbara Striesand promoting Clinton, or Charlton Heston promoting the NRA. I'm talking about the vegetarians, and the animal rights activists, and like Michael said, those who can't keep their mouths shut about who they sleep with. It doesn't matter. Last October, Dave Mustaine was being interviewed at WRIF, and he was asked which presidential candidate he was voting for. His response? Ask him again after the election. He went on to say that he wanted people to make the decision themselves, and not make a choice based on his answer. Do your own research on the candidates, and don't vote based on what he or any media/entertainment personality says. He knows the influence he has over his fans, and chose not to take advantage of it. I respect for him for that. There is a difference between writing your experiences and thoughts into your music, and using your popularity to sway fence sitters and the mis-informed - whether intentional or not.
