Ex-Lemonheads singer Evan Dando, ex-Whiskeytown singer Ryan Adams, ex-Smashing Pumpkins guitarist James Iha and ex-Hole bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur are scheduled to record an album together this winter, according to a spokesperson for Iha at his label, Scratchie Records. The Virgins, the brainchild of Adams and Auf Der Maur, will record at Stratosphere Sound, the new Manhattan recording studio owned by Iha, Fountains of Wayne/Ivy guitarist Adam Schlesinger and Ivy's Andy Chase. Iha is also lined up to record his second solo album in the spring, the spokesperson said. Adams released his second solo album earlier this year, while Dando has been touring solo and made headlines in May when Auf Der Maur's former bandmate Courtney Love took the stage at one of his gigs. The spokesperson for Iha said it was too early to say if the Virgins will tour behind their album. Also, Hole have new stuff according to hole.com. Courtney and Patty have been supporting Jane's Addiction and they've been playing new stuff, yah! Now all they need to do is get Eric, find a bassist and start recording! Who knows, maybe Hole will have new stuff out before Liz?! They're playing with Kittie at some point in the near future too. And whoever said that stuff about Debbie Harry, hey Blondie are/were great! Courtney and Patty did play two shows recently, one supporting Jane's Addiction and a warm-up show of their own the previous night; both times they were billed as Courtney solo performances and they had other musicians -- hired hands -- playing with them, including Steve McDonald from Redd Kross. Courtney did debut several new songs, including some she wrote for the Bastard project, for which Patty was going to be the drummer; unfortunately, they're the only two members left and Courtney hasn't had any luck finding replacements for the defectors. Judging by some of Courtney's posts on the Hole message board, it seems quite likely that the next new release we see from her will be a solo album. The chances seem very slim for another Hole record. Right now, Hole can't legally record or release anything under their band name until their contract litigation against Universal is resolved, and the case isn't set to be heard until April and could drag on for quite a while. What makes the prospect of another Hole record more unlikely is that Courtney and Eric have had some sort of falling out. Not a lot of details are known -- Courtney herself hasn't even said much on the subject -- but apparently they've been estranged from one another for the past year. With no bassist and Eric out of the picture, I really can't see Courtney continuing Hole. If she has to start fresh, she seems more likely to form a new band; the Bastard project seemed like an ill-fated attempt to do just that. I'm not too bothered by this news, though. To me, Courtney defined Hole more than any other member; admittedly, Eric's contribution was a great one, but it always comes back to Courtney for me and she seems determined to make new music no matter what. The only question is what name it will be released under. It will be interesting, though, to see if Courtney gets something out before Liz does. At this point, I wouldn't even begin to predict who'll get an album out first. What I do know is that Aimee Mann will have them both beat; the last I read, her new one should be out around March. Cheers, Jase NP: Elastica, _The Radio One Sessions_ (the next-to-last release from the band; their farewell single, "The Bitch Don't Work," will be out on November 26 in the UK) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Nov 2001 20:45:07 -0800 From: Kenneth Lee Subject: Liz Breathe concert pictures Hi all, Here are some more pictures of Liz at the Breathe concert: http://www.starcrossedpimps.net/images/breathe.html Enjoy! - -Ken kenmlee@ix.netcom.com MeSmErIzInG - AnOtHeR LiZ PhAiR WeBsItE http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Club/2471 ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V4 #296 ************************************
