I'm trying to think of the right term to define this passage. Hubris? Chutzpah? Balls-y? I wonder why we are throwing around names like Brad Wood, Scott Litt, Michael Penn, and Pete Yorn for the next album when it is really obvious we have a true producing genius in our own midsts. I mean, what was Liz thinking all these years using Brad Wood and Litt with REM when Dana was so readily available. It's kinda like when I watch the Lakers on TV and say "Hey I could do a better job defending Shaq on that play." Then reality hits and you think "No, I'm just some out of shape schmoe holding down this barstool and Shaq would make me his total bitch." Then I order another beer. Good, good stuff. It's no longer my favorite off the album, but I still like it. "Baby Got Going" is a sweet song, too, and I'm having a hard time figuring out why others don't like it. ~Chris _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 10 Nov 2001 16:25:33 EST From: RocketBoyD@aol.com Subject: only son hmmmm....... "Only Son"....................well, I like the song......but it's one of those that I only start to dig about half way through.......I especially like the "exilish" guitar outro...very reminiscent of "strange loop".............I think she could have ditched the chorus/verse/chorus structure.........and sped the beat up just a bit.........and ditched the line "all these babies are born, like a field full of poppies"...........BUT, her lyrics are way improved from the "Daddy, daddy, daddy, daddy" awfulness of the demo version..... I think Brad Wood would have done a much better job producing that song rather than Scott Litt. But all in all I think it was worth keeping on WSCE........even though it is sluggish............In my opinion the throwaway tracks on WSCE are: "WSCE (title track)" -----what is this song??? sure it's trippy......but it's not Liz at all....... "Big Tall Man" ----- cute, but way over-produced, sounds like Sheryl Crow not Liz...... "Baby Got Going" -----cute again, but doesn't fit the album.....too experimental........."Fantasize" ----sound like a bad Beatles rip and or an REM song with Liz on vocals...... my ideal WSCE song list would have been: "Perfect World" "Johnny Feelgood" "Love Is Nothing" "Uncle Alvarez" "Only Son" "Go On Ahead" "Headache" "Ride" "What Makes You Happy" ---but switch the intro to the acoustic 1998 rough mix "Shitloads of Money" "Girl's Room" I would throw "Hurricane Cindy" on as a hidden bonus track......... ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V4 #290 ************************************
