One of my favorite bands, but I haven't yet gotten hold of their newest. But its funny you mentioning them and L7 because I was just listening to both of them the other day. I know what you mean about 14 year olds: one of my step-daughter's friends borrowed my Julie Ruin CD a while back and when I asked for it back she said she had "lost it" and then I overheard her saying to someone that she deserved to have it more than me because "why does a guy need to listen to Julie Ruin anyway?" Oh well... Re: anyone pick up the new le tigre yet? ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! I do notice you're using Hotmail, though. You might want to check your Bulk Mail folder; that's probably where all your digests are going, especially if you've activated the In Box Protector. Jen will be playing with the band Loveless. They'll be going on around 10:00 pm. I believe her role in this band is only as a guitarist, so you probably won't have a chance to hear her sing, but you will get to hear her play. And maybe you'll have a shot at meeting her afterwards and can find out what exactly she's working on and report back to the rest of us. ;) Jase ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 17 Oct 2001 21:20:44 From: "steve kisko" Subject: CDnow thing Found this while attempting to research some records by the Who. Dig it: Liz is one of several featured artists in a CDnow sale (though not at a sale price, mind you) showcasing "the most influential -- and underappreciated -- songwriters of all time." Kick-ass. Exile in Guyville is the featured album, and rightfully so. Here's an excerpt: "The iconography of cult hero-dom is constantly evolving: Being a socialist (Billy Bragg) or possessing a world-class sense of the absurd (Randy Newman) is nice, but when seeking an underground hero afterlife, total commercial rejection is a must (to be sampled by the mainstream and rejected -- think Liz Phair, or Lou Reed -- is even better)." and the link to the page: http://www.cdnow.com/cgi-bin/mserver/SID=2081274358/pagename=/MN/PROMO/promo_in_the_media.html/promoid=6933 Although we all know Liz is on a higher quest now (to become even less relevant, get bitchier, lazier, and less-rocking, and somehow go platinum in the process), it's nice to know that her slot in the RnR cult artists hall of fame is locked in place, whether she likes it or not. Disclaimer: No, Ken Lee, this doesn't warrant an update to your "News" section at Mesmerizing. Just looking for an excuse to get in a few good jibes. ;) SK _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 18 Oct 2001 03:35:20 +0000 From: "over pavema" Subject: 4 items a) ken, congrats on topping the 200K mark on site visits to 'mesmerizing'. as always, well-deserved! b) i went to cdnow this evening to see if i could find a fairly obscure, though excellent cd (gini dodds' "mellowdrama" -- anyone from minneapolis, or elsewhere, ever hear it? it's like if sam phillips and chrissie hynde made a cd). aaanyway, they had this link to 'the greatest under-appreciated singer-songwriters', and liz was #10. obviously, they're pushing product, and all that, but i was still pleased to see they're pushing liz in a showcase sort of way. c) dana, for what it's worth, just wanted to say i admired your most recent posting on current events. it doesn't matter whether i agreed with it, or the earlier one or the responses. i'm just saying i respect your taking the time to post your thoughts after some time had passed and we'd all had a chance to gain a little perspective. took some guts, i thought. d) is anyone on the list going to the benefit show that liz is participating in in l.a. (is it next monday)? just wondering if we're going to get a set list and play-by-play of the show afterwards (and maybe even a boot, altho it'll be interesting to see what security is like at shows anymore if you try to sneak in a minidisc or dat recorder). o _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V4 #266 ************************************
