Sorry this is off-topic Liz (is there really any On-TOPIC Liz stuff anyway?) I just thought I would pass the news on, the SAD SAD news that an incredible band called it quits - apparently a month ago - The Toadies. In their 12 years together they only released 2 albums - the most recent being this year's "Hell Below/Stars Above" - if anyone likes groups like the Pixies, Sebadoh or Nirvana - you'll probably like the Toadies. I've been a fan since 1993 - they completely kicked ass - they called it quits stating their "disdain and complete frustration" with the music industry was "unbearable". At any rate - both their albums, "Rubberneck" and "Hell Below..." are fantastic finds - and if you like rock music with a bit more of a sonic edge - pick up the album "Golden Energy CD ...in stereo" by the Tomorrow People - which was the Toadies lead guitarists side-projecty thingie. It's really nice though...really nostalgic and rocking. At any rate - get the albums now before they go out of print - this was a kick-ass, strong band -i'm gonna miss them... laters, dan. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 12 Oct 2001 14:43:40 -0400 From: Jase Subject: Another one Speaking of bands who have called it quits, Elastica announced last week that they've broken up. Speaking of bands who have called it quits, Elastica announced last week that they've broken up. Justine sent this message to the band's news list: >Elastica - Press Release October 3rd 2001 > >Believe it or not elastica have been together for almost ten years >which is probably as long as any band should be together. I know >it's hard to believe but then we did spend quite a while in the >middle dithering and being perfectionists. The band has broken >up on extremely good terms with each other. Any personal >problems from years ago have been happily put to bed - and I >think we all agree that we had an amazing time. > >I know it sounds cliched but I really want to thank everyone who's >supported us over the years through thick and thin - and >especially on the touring for 'The Menace' when despite a luke >warm press reaction I felt an unbelievable surge of goodwill from >our audiences. > >Strangefruit will be putting out a Radio 1 session album at the end >of October with twenty one tracks some of which I think are the >best versions of songs we ever did and other tracks that have >never seen the light of day. We're also putting out a farewell single >on Wichita called 'The Bitch Don't Work' which I thought was an >apt title for imminent retirement. Other than that I've been working >on bits and pieces including a song with British Meat Scene called >'Too Old to Die Young' for The Mike Bassett England Manager >soundtrack. > >Thanks again to all our fans from me and all the band. Big >Cheers. > >Justine Frischmann, October 3rd 2001 At least there's still a couple of releases pending, but it still feels like the end of an era. Some of my other favorites bands, like Pavement or the Loud Family, have already broken up; others, like Hole, seem to be headed in that direction; and a lot of others are taking breaks right now or are taking years to release anything new (Ms. Phair, anyone?).
