Even it it is just ice cubes cracking. I wouldn't expect any less from Bjork. there's a video single released on DVD, too. has anyone seen that? sigh. bjork and liz are like the only 2 people who I can never tire of, and their new musical ways never dissapoint me...I just wish liz would do something...grr. xoxox : stace "There's no need for red-hot pokers. I just saw her homecoming show in Michigan at the Palace of Auburn Hills - and believe it or not - I ended up with 7th FUCKING ROW center stage. I was 10 feet from Madonna the whole night - and Rosie O'Donnell and Madonna's daughter Lourdes sat right in front of me - Rosie video taped us for her show and everything..it was nuts. But - as far as Madonna on guitar - I was kind of impressed. Like - when she started doing Candy Perfume Girl - I was kinda like "Okay..whatever..it's one chord..." but then - she breaks out into this crazy ass solo near the end - and I was literally impressed!!! Like - for REAL impressed. SHe could really play. At one point - the show was "actually" rocking - and it was Madonna...she seemed really natural behind the guitar too...maybe her chords were simple - - but all the same - you'd never think Madonna and Guitar would go together..just had to share that - she really kicked ass with it - and a guitar strap that said "FUCK OFF" - the perfect touch... loved every minute of it. I for real though - felt like a 16 year old girl at an Nsync concert or something - like being 10 feet away from Madonna for a 2 hour period was unreal - it was just so weird to like - wave at this enigma called "Madonna" and see her smile back. Unfuckingreal. i kept thinking "Oh my god..that's the same Madonna who was in Who's That Girl...and the same Madonna from Truth or Dare...and the same Madonna from the Sex book, and the same Madonna from the Open Your Heart video..." It was a shock - even though I did see her before - but she was a micro-dot last time I saw her - I had a nose bleed seat. Now...time to start concentrating on Liz... when is that darn soundtrack coming out - and when are we all gonna get An Evening With some god damn new music??!?!?! anyway, Dan. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 30 Aug 2001 12:03:45 -0400 From: Jason Long Subject: Re: Madonna on guitar Dan wrote: >But - as far as Madonna on guitar - I was kind of impressed. Like - for >REAL impressed. SHe could really play. Hmmm, I don't know about that. If one is to believe Courtney Love, she says that Madonna's guitar parts were all pre-recorded, that it's a total ProTools thing and she knows the guy who recorded it; at least, that's what Courtney's posted online. But who knows? Courtney and Madonna have been known to talk shit about one another. >Now...time to start concentrating on Liz... when is that darn soundtrack >coming out - and when are we all gonna get An Evening With some god damn >new music??!?!?! You know what? I hate to say it, but I've already given up on there being any new Liz music this year -- soundtrack or new album. I just don't think anything's going to happen that soon. The sad thing is that I find myself not even caring that much, at least not the way I used to. For the first time in eight years, I've lost some of my enthusiasm for Liz Phair. What's weird is that I was actually pretty psyched up over the video for "Down," and that wasn't all that long ago. How quickly things can change. I guess I'm sort of worried that the new album is going to suck if Capitol are indeed going to push some producer on her and not let her pick who she wants to work with. She could end up having to work with someone who has no clue how her music should sound and who will not do it justice. It's like they want to commercialize her, which just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Music as product? Well, I guess ultimately, that's what it is anyway, but this just seems more crass. I swear to God, if the new album does indeed blow because of Capitol's fuckwittage, I will boycott the label and not buy anything they release again. If there's something I really want, I'll wait 'til I can find it used or I will download it from Audiogalaxy and burn a CD. Yeah, it's not really fair to the bands, but I'll find other ways to support them, like going to see their shows or buying merchandise. But Capitol will not see a single penny from any of it. Of course, I could be getting all worked up over nothing... But then again, how many times in the past has a label forced a producer on an artist and it ended up working to the music's advantage, not just commercial advantage? Ask Joni Mitchell about _Dog Eat Dog_. Not pretty. There's always the hope that Capitol will drop her. After all, it's been a couple of years already since she went with them and there hasn't been anything to show for it yet. Then again, maybe because Liz has been so slow to complete anything, they may have forgotten she's even on their roster. Now I guess we can see why I haven't been posting much lately; I don't have anything nice to say. From what I understood at the time, it seemed like they had already found a distributor (Universal Focus) for Julie Johnson by that time and that it would still be coming out. Maybe since the company is pretty much in bankruptcy that negated the distribution deal and it seems like the future of Julie Johnson is up in the air at this time Robert ===== As Charles Barkley told a reporter, "You know it's going to hell when the best rapper out there is white and the best golfer is black." Anybody heard anything on a wide release? > More importantly, anyone have any news on a soundtrack > release? no soundtrack news. the film itself was shown at a film fest in nyc on 6/7/01. http://www.newfestival.org/cgi-bin/iowa/event.html?record=22 and at another fest in s.f. the following week: http://66.39.24.176/festival/25th/ if i'm not mistaken, J.J. was financed by shooting gallery films, and i *think* they've had a lot of financial problems and i thought they'd shut down their distribution arm in the late spring. others may know more about that than i do, though. my guess is, no one else has picked it up for distribution. without a film, of course, no soundtrack. the shooting gallery website (they distributed some cool (and some awful) films while they were around -- 'you can count on me', 'sling blade', 'croupier', 'eureka', etc.) hasn't been updated since may, which is probably a bad sign. it *lists* J.J., but has no release information about it. o ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V4 #220 ************************************
