You can listen to it at http://www.npr.org/ramfiles/atc/20010731.atc.16.ram The review is by Colin Berry who mentins Liz. I've read a lot of his stuff and used to write music reviews for his girlfriend (or at least she was then), but I'd never heard his voice. her webpage is at http://www.edithfrost.com and this chicago reader article http://www.chireader.com/hitsville/010720.html On the opener, "Cars and Parties," with her imperfectly quivering vibrato, Frost references the more aggressive style of Liz Phair, and the jaunty title track employs a faux-Dixieland break, but most of the new tunes are unvaryingly gentle. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Aug 2001 09:21:27 -0400 (EDT) From: steever Subject: Re: support-system-digest V4 #200 haven't heard the Sugar Twins...kinda sounds like Cadallaca though? I grew up listening to the likes of nancy sinatra, the shangri-la's, and the bangles--and i adore the b-52s, so i am totally going to check them out now. Edith Frost. That name sounds familiar. Ohhhh i'm thinking sadie frost, the woman who played Lucy in the dracula movie w/ gary oldman and winona. i thought she was really cool. anyways. the first time i heard bettie serveert (which was after i discovered and went crazy over liz) i thought it was some weird jangly raw liz demo or something. Steve. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 02 Aug 2001 06:33:17 -0700 From: "Robert Hart" Subject: Edith Frost I caught on to Edith a while back and she is a lot more mellow, and not as lyrically, sexually overt as Liz. She reminds me of Beth Orton with the surrealism of Wim Wenders mixed in. I would recommend her, esp the album Telescopic, it is divine. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Aug 2001 11:45:15 EDT From: NegSplitz@aol.com Subject: Re:PJ Shows Once again an artist very similar to Liz is going the extra mile to tour..even after an exhausting winter/summer on her own, and then opening for U2..P.J. is doing a short 7 date US tour starting with New York on September 4th, and finishing here in LA! on the 21st..If you like any of her music, she covers it all and reflects much of the same transition as Liz, basically over the same past 10 years..Full itinerary: 9/4 New York, Hammerstein Ballroom 9/7 Boston, Orpheum Theatre 9/8 Philadelphia, Electric Ballroom Factory 9/10 Washington, DC, 9:30 Club 9/13 Chicago, The Riviera 9/18 San Francisco, The Warfield 9/21 LA , Palladium These are tentative, almost confiremed dates..Stay tuned!
