Hard to get more 80's than >that! ...i don't know about that...my first concert (that i went to on my own accord) was ratt & bon jovi, when bon jovi opened for ratt. the "out of the cellar" tour, to be exact. that's pretty damn 80's (yet in a different way). i haven't read the digest in at least two weeks, but if i had, i'm sure i'd have more to say. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Jul 2001 02:04:04 -0400 From: "Bill" Subject: Return of the dead Well just caught up w/the digests for the 1st time in 9 months. The world finally in sync again, and Liz is playing a concert! Alas it's out west, but hey. Last year was brutal starting w/my best friends suicide, and going downhill from there. Here's to new year and hopefully a new record. Reading some of recent digests a couple comments. Jason you mentioned awhile back Steven Malkmus has October? US tour dates listed on Matador site. Can't find them. Also thanks for the Breeders news, but a comment about it. I've read numerous times in the press that Breeder's haven't played live in 5 years, except for a 1 one last year. Well that's wrong because I saw them in March 98 at the El N' Gee in New Haven. Very small dingy club. It was part of a 6 or 7 date tour. Pearl Street in Northampton etc. She said at time said they would be back in summer w/longer tour. The lineup at that time was Kim, Jim McPherson, Luis Lerma, Nathan Farley(from the Amps), Carrie Bradley and Michelle Bodine. Played some Amps, mostly Breeders, and a some new songs. Concert was decent but Kim was drunk, chainsmoking and fairly sloppy. She was ripped at Josephine Wiggs, Kelly D because they quit band without telling her for 2 years. Recorded new album junked it because she was unhappy w/drums. Took year off to learn herself. Came back recorded some stuff Spring 2000. Article in Magnet last year about Flaming Lips(I believe) which included drummers comments in which he strongly implied they were all fucked up and in disarray. He was the Breeders drummer for a short while at that time.(1 of mannnny) Anyway glad to hear they are on track again. Can't wait. Also did anybody go to the Siren Festival at Coney Island? Great concert, especially for free. Could barely move, too many people and too little toilets though. And the garbage on the beach afterward. I've seen GBV and JSBX before and both were great as usual. Also got to see Janet Weiss and Christina Martinez too. If anybody saw it, I was wondering what your impression of Jon Spencer was? Not the music so much as his stage presence. I've seen him before and I've never seen anyone, bar none, who is so electric onstage. Janet Weiss' jaw was dropping. Anybody who gets a chance go see him. He's ever better in a club. To whoever asked of CDNow, I usually got my order in 4 days. Suggestion, buy multiple CD's to cut down shipping costs. Also glad to see Lucinda Williams fans on the list. Bo Ramsey was good but you should have seen the guitarist from her last tour, John Jackson, truly phenomonal. I was a little disappointed at her recent concert because I missed him. Lucinda and Liz have something in common because both take forever to put out an album.(And I adjust accordingly) Lucinda surprised us, how about you Liz? Hello to everyone both old and new. Longwinded as usual. But to really make my day, I'd be hoping for a solo show around the same time and maybe a show by Maria McKee, then I could die a happy man. Brian ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Jul 2001 12:05:38 EDT From: TADude9999@aol.com Subject: Most $$ paid for concert thread... Hey.. In 1989 I paid $250.00 to see The Stones play their only "inside date" of their tour, it was also their last show. Axel Rose and Izzy Stradlin of Guns N' Roses came out and sang one song with the Stones, as did Eric Clapton, and Taj Mahal. This show was in Atlantic City,NJ. That same tour I paid $200.00 to see the first show of the tour in Philly, fifth row dead center. I think Blind Melon opened the show. Least amount paid for a concert was in 1972 when again I saw the Stones in my very first concert in Philly, it was the summer of eighth grade for me, Martha and the Vandellas opened the show followed by Stevie Wonder. The cost of this ticket was $6.50. My parents got the tix for me. Loving Summertime, hope all of you are too, TAD ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Jul 2001 12:37:22 EDT From: Jeska377@aol.com Subject: threads n such 1- the best show I saw for knowing the least about the band at the time is a toss up between Mr. Bungle (mIke Patton's band) and Coal Chamber when they opened for Type O Negative 2- Most $$ paid for a concert actually isnt that much, i think it was like 50 bucks but totally not worth it to see lame-ass Korn. What was I thinking? The least I ever paid was like eleven $ to see Bungle.....havent been to a show in quite awhile. Sucks. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 29 Jul 2001 21:52:26 -0500 (CDT) From: Vasant Ramamurthy Subject: Re: old news: Liz concert in LA... regarding this LA concert, i'd sure like to see liz play, but i gotta say, this whole concert is completely polarized in terms of music quality. on one hand, there are the artists i like, or at least respect (liz, deftones, pete yorn, nikka costa, run DMC). and everybody else (besides julia fordham--i have no idea who she is) is absolute crap. i suppose the ticket price will have to be the tie-breaker on this one... that, and billy corgan is singing w/the deftones. hmmmm. - -vasant ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V4 #197 ************************************
