Did I miss it? ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 23 Jul 2001 14:53:45 -0700 (PDT) From: Jorge Cooper Subject: Liz false alarm and live musings 1) Have you ever had a serious Liz false alarm? I was driving my car last week and listening to a Dallas alt-rock show when my heart stopped. Finally! A new Liz song on the radio. Well, I wasn't sure because it sounded more like the Girlysounds era. Anyway, it turned out to be a good local band called Fred Savage Fanclub. If you get a chance, check out the song, "Brighter." It's Liz circa 1994. I liked it so much, I emailed the DJ and then emailed the singer, Sara. She said Liz was awesome and considered it a great compliment that I thought she was Liz. 2) Speaking of local bands, I saw the Old 97's on Friday and they blew me away. I know list member Sandra was there. Wasn't it great? This band is even better live than on record, check them out when they come to your town. 3) Speaking of live shows, a couple of threads......A) What show kicked ass partially because you knew very little about the band until that night. I mean, it had to be a life-changing even, like losing your virginity. For me, it has happened twice. Not the virginity part. I saw Violent Femmes in Boston in the 80's. They walked through the crowd dressed like patriots and then destroyed everyone with a blistering show. The other time was two years ago. I saw Stereolab in San Diego and that show changed my disposition, personality, and appetite. Seriously, they had me smiling for two hours, drug-free. B) What's the most you ever paid for a show. About 5 years ago, I paid $250 for two six-row tickets to Dead Can Dance here in Dallas. It was worth $1,000, though I'm not that crazy. But it turned out to be their last tour so it was double worth it. 4) anyone want to trade a tape? I'm looking for Sarah Harmer's old band Weeping Tile or some Le Tigre. Now, back to my cave in the deep, dark woods, Jorge in Dallas Make international calls for as low as $.04/minute with Yahoo! Both CDs have been deleted by Warners, but they're still available for purchase through Jen's new Web site, which can be found at [http://www.jentrynin.com]. According to the note she recently posted on her site, she's working on something new right now. Hopefully more information will be posted soon. There are also a couple of mp3s of rarities that can be downloaded from her site -- "Don't Take It Out On Me" in particular is excellent. Hope this helps, Jase ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V4 #191 ************************************
