He's actually a huge music fan..He and Dave Barry, Barbara Kingsolver and Amy Tan are in a band together (isn't that a weird lineup?!) They play covers of everything, and occasionally one of them breaks out a typewriter and plays rhythmically.. it's strange; stephen king is a much better human being than he is a writer. a truly fascinating guy. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Jul 2001 09:32:05 EDT From: LilRussianGirl@aol.com Subject: Responses >>it's just a song, she's just a regular person- Duh. >>It sounds like she might have some unresolved issues of her own to deal with and was projecting them onto Liz's life and taking out her frustration on Over Pavement. Gee, who's playing "amateur psychiatrist" now? My point was, (although apparently I went off on a rant that did not productively and effectively communicate it), speculation happens a lot, especially when it comes to celebrities, and that most of the speculation that occurs on this list is usually due to reports in news papers, magazines, etc. {At least it is not random gossip that someone just dreamed up in their head.} People are going to speculate. You can't stop that. See what someone said about me above? Pure speculation! Or look at this: >>Then i remembered the book was written in 1999, a year after Liz appeared on the cover of EWeekly for lilith. we decided that he was gonna use Sarah mclachlan or Sheryl crow, but then he saw Liz and was like "eh, I'll use that name instead" ;) Speculation! Speculation! Should my response be "How dare you say that! You don't know anything about Stephen King's life!" ... c'mon... do you see what I'm saying? It happens all of the time, but at least when it happens here in regard to Liz's life, it is usually based on known or published *facts*. As for the rant, I did because I find the statement that one has to have been married to be able to write divorce song offensive and insulting. The simple fact is, nothing ticks me off more (well, other than homophobia, racism, sexism, well OK, there are quite a few other things, actually, but...) than when people make statements that demean the fact that it is possible to have a serious committed relationship and experience the feelings, emotions and thoughts that you would have with someone if you were "married", just because you aren't. Maybe you *can't* be. Maybe you choose not to be. My point was that if overpavement recognizes this, and then simply says that Liz is creative or imaginative because she wrote divorce song without having been *legally* married, that is - (on overpavement's part) -- speculation based on fact. From what we know, she had not been legally married before she wrote it, but how do we (or you or I or overpavement) know that she wasn't just that committed to someone? We don't. That's my point. And yet Overpavement is telling everyone else not to do exactly what he/she is doing. 1) it is possible to understand what it's like to be married without having *legally* been married and 2) we don't know what she has experienced emotionally. In fact, I think that I said that ... yeah, I did: >>>And again, although it's only speculation, *****(because no one really knows except Liz)*********, we do know from interviews and reports that Liz went out to California because she was seriously involved, ********and that these experiences somehow (however literally or loosely) played into some of the material she wrote for GirlySound ************ Does everyone understand now? I hope that clarifies it. >>Guys, let's not take pot shots at each other. Isn't there a more constructive way to discuss these issues? Well, I hope that I have here. Kudos to James for trying to keep the peace.... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 11 Jul 2001 11:15:24 -0400 (EDT) From: "Dennis J. Kim" Subject: liz' guitars That would be, as Steve Kisko mentioned earlier, a '63 Fender Musicmaster. She also has a '62 Fender Duo-sonic, according to the Nov. '93 issue of _Musician_, transcribed on the "Mesmerizing" web page. The non-Fender guitars in the Jealousy and Supernova videos are actually different guitars. In Jealousy, she's playing an Epiphone that I can't identify, but has a Fender Jaguar style body. In Supernova, she's playing something with six strings...
