I am bummed, i really really want to see Poe (not with dm) and she hasn't toured on this album besides that borders thing that didn't come round these parts. But, yeah, i hope she sells lots of records at the dm shows...and Hey Pretty is climbin the charts...so maybe we'll get a Poe tour sometime soon. Oh, another weird pairing i just heard about: Sarah Harmer opening for Barenaked Ladies. i know they are both canadian but the similarities end there. steve ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 May 2001 09:10:55 From: "Chipko Arnold" Subject: only living boy in new york... ... at least for a weekend. >i think that's another of liz's great steals.... i've noticed that >billy >bragg steals from the very same song, when he starts out 'new >england' >with >'i was 21 years when i wrote this song, i'm 22 now but i won't be for >long...' i think that's how the S&G song starts too, right? ... the Bragg steal is from 'the leaves that are green' and i'm glad someone else knows about that. i wondered why i knew the BB song so well when it came out and then someone pointed the S&G 'lift' out to me. Wheat also steel from Simon on a track on 'hope and adams' where they go into 'me & julio'. it's uncredited and bugged me for ages as i couldn't put my finger on it. I was in NYC at the weekend so i'm in a S&G frame of mind. "and i wonder how i've come to know so much less than i knew before" ... Joseph Lee Henry. "i know the promise is so much better than the real thing" ... Steve is correct. That was Jesus' cry of despair as he was being crucified, when in his moment of doubt he cried to God "My lord, my lord, why hast thou forsaken me?" That's where all these songs got it from. For a songwriter, it's a powerful bit of resonance. d - -- Dave Slusher dave_slusher@sff.net http://www.sff.net/people/dave_slusher/ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 May 2001 08:34:17 -0700 (PDT) From: Andy Peters Subject: Liz and Billy Joel in response to Liz touring with Billy Joel, she did open for Alanis Morisette. if Liz does tour to support her new album, anyone think she'll do another round of opening for a bigger-name act? i assume she'd tour on her own, but would she also open for someone like a Garbage? I think Liz is bigger than that, but I was also surprised she opened for Alanis, not only because Alanis is so mainstream, (and also of such a lower quality than Liz), but also because I thought Liz was bigger than that. (Please, no one get into a debate over the merits or pure evil of Napster because of this post...please.) As to where Liz got the phrase from, I'm with the biblical origins camp on this one, though it could be a subtle reference to S&G. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 May 2001 17:48:40 From: Kenneth Lee Subject: Re: query for Ken Lee On Wed, 9 May 2001 05:10:22 -0700 (PDT), Andy Peters wrote: >Ken, >Is it possible to get an audio download of Liz Phair's >1993 interview on NPR? >Andy P. in Decatur (Ga) Hi Andy, I don't know if there is an audio file available at NPR's website (or any Liz Phair webpage). I do have a tape of that interview. I could make an audio file of it and make it available, if there is enough interest. - -Ken kenmlee@ix.netcom.com MeSmErIzInG - AnOtHeR LiZ PhAiR WeBsItE http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Club/2471/ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 May 2001 17:51:36 From: Kenneth Lee Subject: WCSE Sessions On Wed, 09 May 2001 03:42:27 -0400, Jason Long made mention of: >Ken's WCSE Sessions If anyone still wants this, just email me and I will give you the relevant information. - -Ken kenmlee@ix.netcom.com MeSmErIzInG - AnOtHeR LiZ PhAiR WeBsItE http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Club/2471/ ------------------------------ End of support-system-digest V4 #126 ************************************
