The David Mead pictures are 447-450. The entire set of pictures from that concert are 441-461. The pictures were taken by the infamous Steve Kisko. This is an excerpt from "Musician", November 1993: "LIZ PHAIR plays a pre-CBS Fender Stratocaster (circa 1958), as well as a 1962 Fender Duo-Sonic and a 1963 Fender Musicmaster. The guitars plug into a Fender Twin and a Peavey Encore 110, augmented in the studio by a Hiwatt Custom 50 and a cabinet stuffed with 12s by JBL, Celestion, plus a "generic" cone for extra crunch. She sings through a Senheiser 441 onstage, and in the studio a 1963 Sony C37P solid-state and a 1949 Telefunken U47. Liz also plays on "any piano I can get my hands on, which is another way of saying that I have no brand to plug for you"." I'm talking about the two Fenders she almost always has in concerts and in photos. (The red Fender and white one with the swirly - -gig on it) * * * * * * Liz has told guitar magazines about her guitars / amps of choice. Go to Ken's website, Mesmerizing (don't know the url but you can search for 'liz phair' on google or something), and check in his massively wonderful article archive for guitar magazine interviews. That's probably the best way to find out. I know I had a concert photo of her, with her red guitar, in my notebook cover when I was in high school, and I remember that my friend Pat said, "oh hey, that's a stratocaster like mine." I didn't know what this meant at the time, but I have a red strat myself now so when I go home next week I can find that notebook & let you know. (something on the line of that...) Call me lazy in finding this out for myself, but I was...I dunno....haunted (?) to hear the same words in one of Simon & Garfunkel's song on an album I just bought. I'm starting to guess that perhaps it was written in response to the S&G song, or Liz just liked the phrase. Hmm...
